M1 Junction 43-48, Leeds - Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order

What is happening?

NATIONAL HIGHWAYS

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14
THE M1 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 43 TO JUNCTION 48)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made
an Order on the M1 Motorway and the A1(M) Motorway, in the Districts
of Leeds and Wakefield, to enable structural assessments, surveys and
works, barrier removal and installation, lighting removal and installation,
cable and ducts removal and installation, earthworks, drainage, and outlet
works, resurfacing and white lining works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 8pm on Saturday 1 June 2024 and will
take place periodically over a period of 12 months and will end on Saturday
31 May 2025.
The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works,
to impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M1 northbound:
(i) carriageway from 1100 metres south of its diverge with the M621
northbound carriageway at Junction 43 (Stourton Interchange) to its
merge with the A1(M) northbound carriageway at Hook Moor (M1
Junction 48, A1(M) Junction 43), a distance of 17995 metres: and
(ii) entry and exit slip roads at Junction 44 (Rothwell Haigh), Junction
45 (East Leeds Link), Junction 46 (Austhorpe) and Junction 47 (Parlington).
It will be necessary to close between 8pm and 6am, at times during the
works, the
(iii) M1 northbound carriageway from its diverge with the M621
northbound carriageway at Junction 43 (Stourton Interchange) to its
merge with the A1(M) northbound carriageway at Hook Moor (M1
Junction 48, A1(M) Junction 43), a distance of 16895 metres: and
(iv) the slip roads described above in (ii).
During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available at
all times.
It will also be necessary to, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to;
(v) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6’6” in specified lanes of
the length of carriageway described in (iii); and
(vi) use the hard shoulder for traffic adjacent to the length of carriageway
described in (iii).
THE M1 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 48 TO JUNCTION 43)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made
an Order on the M1 Motorway, the A1(M) Motorway, the A64 Trunk
Road, the A63 Trunk Road, in the Districts of Leeds and Wakefield, to
enable structural assessments, surveys and works, barrier removal and
installation, lighting removal and installation, cable and ducts removal and
installation, earthworks, drainage, and outlet works, resurfacing and white
lining works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 8pm on Saturday 1 June 2024 and will
take place periodically over a period of 12 months and will end on Saturday
31 May 2025.
The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the
works, to impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the:
(i) A1(M) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 44
(Bramham) to 500 metres south of the exit slip road at Junction 43
(Hook Moor), a distance of 5825 metres;
(ii) M1 southbound carriageway from its diverge with the A1(M)
southbound carriageway at Hook Moor (A1(M) Junction 43) to its
merge with the M621 Motorway southbound carriageway at Junction
43 (Stourton Interchange), a distance of 15440 metres;
(iii) A1(M) southbound entry slip road at Junction 44;
(iv) link road connecting the A64 westbound carriageway with the A1(M)
southbound carriageway at Bramham;
(v) M1 southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 47 (Parlington);
(vi) M1 southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 46 (Austhorpe);
(vii) M1 southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 45 (East Leeds Link);
(viii) link road connecting the A63 westbound carriageway with the M1
southbound carriageway at Austhorpe; and
(ix) M1 southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 44 (Rothwell Haigh).
It will be necessary to close between 8pm and 6am, at times during the
works, the:
(x) length of M1 southbound carriageway as described above in (ii);
(xi) A1(M) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 44 to
the entry slip road at Junction 42 (Selby Fork), a distance of 13100 metres;
(xii) slip roads and link roads described above in (iii, iv, v, vi, vii, viii and ix); and
(xiii) A1(M) southbound exit slip road at Junction 42.
During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available at
all times.
It will also be necessary to, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to;
(xiv) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6’6” in specified lanes of
the M1 carriageway as described above in (ii); and
(xv) use the hard shoulder for traffic adjacent to the M1 carriageway as
described in (ii).
Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will
indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency
service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not
apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection
with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes).
The Orders comes into force on 1 June 2024 and will expire on 31 May 2025.
