What is happening?

THE A249 TRUNK ROAD (STOCKBURY TO QUEENBOROUGH) CLEARWAY/NO WAITING ORDER 2024


National Highways Limited(a) gives notice that they have made an Order under powers conferred by Sections 1(1), 2(1) and (2)(c) and 4(1) of the Road
Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on the A249 Trunk Road in the Districts of Maidstone and Swale in the County of Kent.


The Order was made on 24th May 2024 and comes into force 1st June 2024.
The effect of the Regulation is to impose a ban on stopping, waiting, and parking on: -


1. both carriageways of the A249 between a point approximately 492 metres north of the centreline of its junction with Church Hill (Stockbury) and a point approximately 500 metres north of the centreline of its junction with the B2007, Queenborough, a distance of approximately 14,850 metres measured along the length of the road;


2. all of the slip roads leading to and from the lengths of road described in 1. above;


3. any central reservation, verge, and footwa adjacent to any of the above; and


4. the maintenance hardstanding bays marked “Authorised Vehicles only” on and in the vicinity of Stockbury Roundabout.


This replaces and revokes two previous orders as follows:

The A249 Trunk Road (M2 to Kingsferry Bridge) (24 Hours Clearway) 1998 (b);The A249 Trunk Road (Iwade Bypass to Queenborough Improvement) (24 Hours Clearway) Order 2006 (c); and extends coverage over the new Stockbury Flyover.

A copy of the Made Order and plans illustrating the effects may be inspected at: - Reception, Swale Borough Council, Swale House, East Street, Sittingbourne, Kent ME10 3HT, during opening hours. (10 a.m. – 12 noon)
until the end of the legally obligated period, 5th July 2024, being a minimum of 6 weeks from the date of making the Order.
