What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on the 16th day of May 2024 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9) & (10). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (11), (12), (13), (14) & (15).
(1) WALMGATE. YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Walmgate, York (i) between its junctions with Dennis Street & St Denys Road and (ii) between its junctions with St Denys Road and George Street and (iii) between locations 5 metres either side of its junction with George Street (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Sunday, 19 May 2024 and ending at 1700hrs on Sunday, 19 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the 'ONE WAY' direction of traffic flow in Walmgate between Merchantgate and Dennis Street is suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in said road. Alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Margaret Street, Lead Mill Lane, Piccadilly, Merchantgate, St Denys Road, George Street.
(2) DROME ROAD. COPMANTHORPE
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Drome Road, Copmanthorpe between its junction with Temple Garth and a location 35 metres north west of said junction (closed road) during the period when sewer works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 20 May 2024 and ending at 1700hrs on Wednesday, 22 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Temple Garth, Temple Lane.
(3) KINGS WAY WEST & WINDSOR GARTH. YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Kingsway West & Windsor Garth, York (i) on Kingsway West between the projected southern boundaries of property No's 8 and 31 and (ii) on Windsor Garth between its junction with Kingsway West and a location 17 metres north-east of its junction with Kempton Close and (iii) on Ascot Way between its junction with Windsor Garth and a location 5 metres northeast of said junction and (iv) on Newbury Avenue between its junction with Windsor Garth and a location 5 metres south-west of said junction and (v) on Kempton Close between its junction with Windsor Garth and a location 5 metres south-east of said junction (closed roads) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 20 May 2024 and ending at 1430hrs on Monday, 20 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Windsor Garth, Ashford Place, Ascot Way, Kingsway West, Newbury Avenue.
(4) CLIFTON PARK AVENUE. YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Clifton Park Avenue, York between its junction with Shipton Road and a location 180 metres west of said junction (closed road) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2330hrs on Monday, 20 May 2024 and ending at 0600hrs on Wednesday, 22 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2330hrs and 0600hrs each night during the works period.
(5) HIGHTHORN ROAD & WHITETHORN CLOSE. YORK
his Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Highthorn Road & Whitethorn Close, York (i) on Highthorn Road between its junctions with New Lane and Elm Grove and (ii) on Whitethorn Close between its junction with Highthorn Road and a location 10 metres north of said junction and (iii) on Highthorn Road between its junctions with East Way and Anthea Drive (closed roads) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Monday, 20 May 2024 and ending at 1500hrs on Monday, 20 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Anthea Drive, Maythorn Road, East Way, New Lane.
(6) MOOR LANE. SKELTON
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moor Lane, Skelton between its junction with Corban Lane and a location 50 metres east of the projected eastern boundary of property No. 17 (closed road) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Tuesday, 21 May 2024 and ending at 1500hrs on Tuesday, 21 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Corban Lane, Shipton Road, St Giles Road, The Village, Moorlands Road.
(7) HALIFAX WAY. ELVINGTON
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Halifax Way, Elvington between its junction with Elvington Lane and a location 32 metres north of the junction with Harrier Court (closed road) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Tuesday, 21 May 2024 and ending at 0500hrs on Thursday, 30 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 1900hrs and 0500hrs each night during the works period.
(8) PATTERDALE DRIVE. YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Patterdale Drive, York between its junctions with Loweswater Road and Wasdale Close (closed road) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Tuesday, 21 May 2024 and ending at 1500hrs on Tuesday, 21 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Shipton Road, Loweswater Road, Bowness Drive.
(9) USHER LANE. HAXBY
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Usher Lane, Haxby between its junctions with Usher Park Road and Crossmoor Lane (closed road) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Wednesday, 22 May 2024 and ending at 1500hrs on Wednesday, 22 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Crossmoor Lane, Moor Lane, The Village.
(10) BACK LANE FROM OPPOSITE PARISH HALL DENNIS STREET (CONTINUATION). YORK
This Order continues in force The York (Back Lane From Opposite Parish Hall Dennis Street) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2024 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue the prohibition on vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane From Opposite Parish Hall Dennis Street, York between its junctions with Dennis Street and St Denys Road (closed road) during the period commencing at 0001 hours on Saturday, 18 May 2024 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 28 June 2024 (works period) or on a date when building demolition works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Piccadilly, Merchantgate, Walmgate.
(11) MISCELLANEOUS EVENTS. YORK
This Order imposes traffic restrictions on roads and lengths of roads in the District of York, during the period commencing at 1000hrs on Monday, 27 May 2024 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 14 November 2025 associated with the events & locations listed below, taking place at an off-road location to avoid danger or the likelihood of danger arising to persons or other traffic using the various roads.
LOCATIONS & EVENTS Upper Poppleton (Sports Day); Upper Poppleton (Great Yorkshire Show at Harrogate); Esplanade, York (Dragon Boat Race River Ouse)
(12) MONKS CROSS DRIVE. YORK
This Order will prohibit pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footway on the eastern side of Monks Cross Drive, York between locations 10 and 20 metres north of the roundabout controlled junction with Jockey Lane (closed footway) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2200hrs on Tuesday, 28 May 2024 and ending at 0600hrs on Wednesday, 29 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will be signed during the works period via Monks Cross Drive.
(13) GLEN ROAD. YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Glen Road, York between its junctions with Hawthorn Grove and Glen Avenue (closed road) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1030hrs on Tuesday, 28 May 2024 and ending at 1530hrs on Tuesday, 28 May 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route For diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via East Parade, Melrosegate, Fourth Avenue, Fifth Avenue.
(14) BISHOPTHORPE ROAD. YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Bishopthorpe Road, York between a location 27 metres north of its junction with Beresford Road and a location 32 metres south of its junction with Campleshon Road (closed road) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1830hrs on Friday, 31 May 2024 and ending at 0200hrs on Wednesday, 12 June 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 1830hrs and 0200hrs on weekday night and between 0800hrs and 1800hrs on Sundays. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Nunnery Lane, Blossom Street, The Mount, Tadcaster Road, Sim Balk Lane, Church Lane.
(15) LEEMAN ROAD. YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of north-westbound carriageway on Leeman Road, York between its junction with Cinder Lane and a location 222metres north-west of said junction (closed carriageway) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Friday, 31 May 2024 and ending at 0600hrs on Monday, 03 June 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Station Avenue, Museum Street, St Leonards Place, Bootham, Clifton, Water End, Salisbury Road, Salisbury Terrace, Kingsland Terrace.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
