Edinburgh Marathon Festival - Temporary Road Restrictions

What is happening?

THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

(EDINBURGH MARATHON FESTIVAL) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2024 – TEMP/24 / 63

The Council, with the consent of Scottish Ministers, has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate the holding of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival event/s, no person shall: (a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on the sections of roads specified in Sch 1, where closures will apply to roads in their entirety unless otherwise stated; (b) cause or permit any motor vehicle to enter, proceed or wait in or on any part of the lengths of roads specified in Sch 2; (c) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait or load onto or unload from any vehicle on the sections of roads specified in Sch 3, where prohibitions will apply to both sides of the roads in their entirety unless otherwise stated; & (d) drive or cause or permit any vehicle to be driven on the sections of roads specified in Sch 4, otherwise than in the direction specified in the said Schedule.

The following restrictions will be suspended:

(i) bus, taxi and cycle lane on Johnston Ter;

(ii) one-way restrictions on West Crosscauseway, Nicolson Sq, Victoria St, Candlemaker Row & Meadowbank Ave;

(iii) prohibition of motor vehicles on High St; &

(iv) prohibition of entry on Ramsay Lane.

Existing restrictions may be suspended on the affected sections of roads described in Sch 3. The alternative routes for vehicular traffic are via Melville Drv, Brougham Pl, Brougham St, Earl Grey St & Lothian Rd; or Sth Bridge, Nth Bridge & Waterloo Pl. The order shall have effect during the hours and on the dates specified in the Schedules.

SCHEDULE 1 ROAD CLOSURES:

(A) from 17:00hrs on 24/5/24 to 18:00hrs on 25/5/24; & from 06:00hrs to 12:00hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Holyrood Gait; (ii) Queen’s Drv; (iii) Duke’s Walk; & (iv) Horse Wynd;

(B) from 06:00hrs to 11:00hrs on 25/5/24 on: (i) Holyrood Park Rd, from East Parkside to Duddingston Low Rd; (ii) Old Church Lane; (iii) Duddingston Low Rd; & (iv) Innocent Cycleway, from East Parkside to Duddingston Rd West;

(C) from 17:00hrs on 25/5/24 to 13:00hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Potterrow; (ii) Lothian St; (iii) Teviot Pl; (iv) Charles St; (v) Nicolson Sq, nth side in its entirety; (vi) George Sq, in its entirety (excl. resident and chaplaincy access to west of square (via Buccleuch Pl)); (vii) George Sq Lane; (viii) Crichton St; & (ix) Marshall St;

(D) from 05:00hrs to 11:00hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Chapel St; (ii) Buccleuch St; & (iii) Hope Park Cres;

(E) from 05:00hrs on 25/5/24 to 11:00hrs on 26/5/24 on West Nicolson St;

(F) from 05:00hrs to 11:00hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Bristo Pl; & (ii) Forrest Rd;

(G) from 06:00hrs to 11:00hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Lauriston Pl, from the eastern kerbline of the vehicular access to George Heriot’s school, eastwards to its jnct with Forrest Rd; (ii) George IV Bridge; (iii) Lawnmarket; (iv) Bank St; (v) Nth Bank St; (vi) The Mound; (vii) Mound Pl; (viii) Cockburn St; (ix) Waverley Bridge; (x) Market St; & (xi) Jeffrey St;

(H) from 06:00hrs to 12:00hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Canongate; & (ii) Abbey Strand;

(I) from 06:00hrs to 12:30hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Meadowbank Ter; (ii) Parsons Green Ter, at its jnct with London Rd; (iii) Wolseley Cres, at its jnct with London Rd; (iv) Restalrig Ave; (v) Craigentinny Ave; & (vi) Fillyside Rd; &

(J) from 08:10hrs to 09:35hrs; & from 10:10hrs to 11:30hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) King’s Pl; & (ii) Seafield Rd/ Seafield Rd East, from the south-eastern kerbline of the vehicular access to Seafield Retail Park, south-eastwards to the north-western kerbline of the vehicular access to Seafield Way.

SCHEDULE 2 PROHIBITION OF MOTOR VEHICLES:

(A) from 05:00hrs to 12:30hrs on 26/5/24 on Buccleuch Pl (except event buses); &

(B) from 06:00hrs to 12:30hrs on 26/5/24 on Restalrig Rd Sth, from Restalrig Ave to Portobello Rd (except SFRS vehicles).

SCHEDULE 3 PROHIBITION OF WAITING, LOADING & UNLOADING:

(A) from 06:00hrs to 10:30hrs on 25/5/24 on: (i) Old Church Lane; & (ii) Duddingston Rd West;

(B) from 06:00hrs on 25/5/24 to 12:30hrs on 26/5/24 on Canongate;

(C) from 18:30hrs on 24/5/24 to 12:30hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Horse Wynd, (ii) Queen’s Drv, (iii) Duke’s Walk; & (iv) Holyrood Gait;

(D) from 22:00hrs on 25/5/24 to 12:30hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Willowbrae Rd, both sides, from Portobello Rd to Abercorn Rd; (ii) Meadowbank Ter; (iii) Restalrig Rd Sth, both sides, from Restalrig Ave to Portobello Rd; (iv) Restalrig Ave; (v) Craigentinny Ave; (vi) Fillyside Rd; (vii) Seafield Rd East, both sides, from the south-eastern kerbline of Fillyside Rd, south-eastwards to the northern kerbline of Seafield Rd East (service road); (viii) Portobello Rd, sth side, from Willowbrae Rd to Piershill Lane; (ix) King’s Pl; (x) Musselburgh Rd, nth side, in its entirety; (xi) Joppa Rd, both sides, from Joppa Park to Musselburgh Rd; (xii) Seafield Ter & Eastfield (B6415), both sides, from the point it adjoins Musselburgh Rd to the point it adjoins Edinburgh Rd; & (xiii) A199, both sides, from the point it adjoins Eastfield Rd to the point it adjoins Edinburgh Rd;

(E) from 13:30hrs on 25/5/24 to 12:30hrs on 26/5/24 on London Rd, both sides, from Meadowbank Ter to Willowbrae Rd;

(F) from 18:30hrs on 25/5/24 to 12:30hrs on 26/5/24 on: (i) Potterrow; (ii) Chapel St; (iii) Buccleuch St; (iv) Buccleuch Pl: (1) nth side, in its entirety; & (2) sth side, from the east property boundary of No. 21, westwards for 40m (incl. central reservation parking); (v) Marshall St; (vi) Nicolson Sq, all sides in its entirety; (vii) George Sq, all sides in its entirety; (viii) George Sq Lane; (ix) Crichton St; (x) Charles St; (xi) West Crosscauseway; (xii) Meadow Lane; (xiii) Forrest Rd; (xiv) Teviot Pl; (xv) Hope Park Cres; (xvi) Bristo Pl; (xvii) George IV Bridge; (xviii) Bank St; (xix) Nth Bank St; (xx) The Mound; (xxi) Sth Bridge; (xxii) Waverley Bridge; (xxiii) Market St; & (xxiv) Jeffrey St; &

SCHEDULE 4 ONE-WAY ROADS:

(A) from 06:00hrs to 11:00hrs on 25/5/24 on Duddingston Rd West, from The Causeway to North Cairntow, otherwise than in a sthbound direction (except Lothian Bus service No. 42); &

(B) from 06:00hrs to 11:00hrs on 26/5/24 on Hanover St, from Princes St to Rose St, otherwise than in a nthbound direction.
