What is happening?

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
SECTIONS 90A AND 90C HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 – ROAD HUMP NOTICE
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF SPEED TABLES - FERRYBOAT LANE, SUNDERLAND

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Sunderland in exercise of its powers under Section 90A of the Highways Act 1980 and after consultation in accordance with Section 90C of the Highways Act 1980 proposes to construct five sets of speed cushions (road humps) complying with the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999 as a traffic calming measure to reduce vehicle speeds along Ferryboat Lane Sunderland. The current speed limit on the above length of road is 30 mph with Caithness Road and Cricklewood Road having speed limits of 20mph. The road humps are in the forms of speed tables which are raised sections of the carriageway, designed to control vehicle speeds. The locations, nature and dimensions and location of the proposed road humps are as follows:-
Speed Table - Junction of Ferryboat Lane with Caithness Road
Dimensions Each speed cushion will have the following dimensions: Width: full width of carriageway; Length: 30000 mm; On/off Gradient: 1:15: Plateau Length: 27000mm; Max Height: 100 mm.
Locations (i) Ferryboat Lane from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 28.8 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 53 & 55 Ferryboat Lane; (ii) Caithness Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 16.0 metres west of the extended party property boundary of 2 & 4 Caithness Road. Dimensions Each speed cushion will have the following dimensions: Width: full width of carriageway; Length:25500 mm; On/off Gradient: 1:15; Plateau Length: 22500mm; Max Height: 100 mm.
Locations (i) Ferryboat Lane from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 33.5 metres north of the extended party property boundary of 113 & 115 Ferryboat Lane. (ii) Cricklewood Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 32.0 west of the extended party property boundary of 4 & 6 Cricklewood Road
Additional Traffic Calming Works Traffic calming feature of two pinch points are to be located: (i) the west side Ferryboat Lane from the centre of the carriageway, 1.2 metres north of the extended party property boundary of 77 & 79 Ferryboat Lane. (ii) the east side Ferryboat Lane from the centre of the carriageway, 16.7 metres north of the extended party property boundary of 77 & 79 Ferryboat Lane.
The plans and a statement of reasons for the above proposed road humps may be inspected during normal opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until the end of the consultation period. Objections to the proposed road humps must be made in writing to E. Waugh, Assistant Director of Law and Governance, City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA or via email at: statutoryorders@sunderland.gov.uk on or before the 8th June 2024 any objection must state the grounds on which it is made.
