M62 Motorway - Prohibition Of Traffic For Railway Bridge Replacement Works
What is happening?
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14
THE M62 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 19-20 CARRIAGEWAYS & SLIP ROADS)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M62 Motorway, in the Borough of Rochdale and the City of Manchester, in the County of Greater Manchester, to enable railway bridge replacement works to be carried out in safety.
The Order will on the following section of the M62 Motorway:
i. impose a 50 or 60mph speed limit on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, from a point 2,750 metres west of the Railway Bridge, to a point 2,450 metres east of the Railway Bridge;
ii. ban all traffic from the westbound carriageway, from the exit slip road at J20 to the entry slip road at J19;
iii. ban all traffic from the westbound entry slip road at J20;
iv. ban all traffic from the westbound exit slip road at J19.
The works are expected to take place overnight between 21:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Monday 24 June 2024 and ending on Saturday 6 July 2024.
However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights until completion.
Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M62 Motorway will be well signed.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works or traffic officer vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs.
The Order comes into force on 23 June 2024. and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
