What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)(a) AND PARAGRAPH 27(1) OF SCHEDULE 9

THE A421 TRUNK ROAD (MARSTON JUNCTION TO A6 ELSTOW INTERCHANGE, BEDFORDSHIRE) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 202_

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited(a) intends to make an Order on the A421 Trunk Road, in the County of Bedfordshire, to enable the continuation of noise barrier replacement works to be carried out in safety.

The works which would take place overnight (8pm to 6am), are expected to continue for a further 3 months from 27 May 2024.

The effect of the Order on the A421 would be to impose, for 24 hours daily, a speed restriction of –

1.   40 miles per hour on the -

•     westbound carriageway from 1500 metres west of the exit slip road at A6 Elstow Interchange for a distance of 3600 metres west, and

•     eastbound carriageway from 800 metres east of the tip of the nosing of the eastbound exit slip road at Marston Junction for a distance of 5000 metres east, and

•     eastbound entry slip road at Marston Junction.

2.   50  miles per hour on the –

•     westbound carriageway from the westbound exit slip road at the A6 Elstow Interchange for a distance of 1500 metres west, and

•     eastbound carriageway from 300 metres east of the eastbound exit slip road at Marston Junction for a distance of  500 metres east;

The laybys adjacent to the eastbound and westbound carriageways between Marston Junction and A6 Elstow Interchange would be closed for  24 hours daily for the duration of the works.

The A421 Trunk Road (Brogborough Interchange to A6 Elstow Interchange) Bedfordshire (Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2023 No.2023 would be revoked.

The temporary mandatory speed limits (which would not apply to emergency service or special force vehicles), would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

The Order would come into force on 27 May 2024 and may continue in force until the works detailed above have been completed, or for a maximum duration of 18 months, whichever is the earlier. Mrs D Mainstone, National Highways Limited
