What is happening?
SOUTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL (GENERAL AMENDMENTS IN RELATION
TO VARIATION OF PARKING CHARGES) ORDER 2024
South Tyneside Council proposes to make an Order under Sections 1, 2, 32, 35 and Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers.
The effect of the Order will be to amend South Tyneside Council (Foreshore and Off Street Parking Places)(Consolidation) Order 2024 as follows: To remove the transferability of parking tickets between Town Centre Car Parks and Foreshore Car Parks. A parking ticket issued by a ticket machine at any South Tyneside Council Town Centre Car Park (apart from Claypath Lane Car Park and Winchester Street Car Park between the times of 8.00am and
5.00pm Mondays to Fridays inclusive) may be used in any South Tyneside
Council Town Centre Car Park up to the level of payment made. A parking
ticket issued by a ticket machine at any South Tyneside Council Foreshore
Car Park may be used in any South Tyneside Council Foreshore Car Park up to the level of payment made. Removal of Mile End Road Car Park from the Town Centre Schedule of Car Parks as it is no longer there. Amend the days of operation of charges for parking place in relation to Charlotte Street North, Charlotte Street South, Charlotte Street West, Interchange, North Street, Oyston Street, Salem Street and Thomas Street Car Parks to Mon-Sun inclusive.
The Order will also amend the South Tyneside Council (Parking Places)(Consolidation) Order 2024 as follows:- Pay and display 8am-8pm Mon-Sun on Sea Rd the northeast side from a point 209m southeast of its junction with Beach Rd in a south eastwards direction for 79m will be amended to Sea Rd North and the period of parking will be amended to include no return same day.
Pay and display 8am-8pm Mon-Sun on Sea Rd, the northeast side from a
point 376m southeast of its junction with Beach Rd in a south eastwards
direction for 81m will be amended to Sea Rd South and the period of parking will be amended to include no return same day.
Pay and display 8am-5pm Mon-Sun on Beach Rd the north side from a point 40m east of its junction with Fowler St to a point 19m west of its junction with Anderson St will be amended to Beach Rd West.
Pay and display 8am-8pm Mon-Sun on Beach Rd the northwest side from a
point 30m southwest of its junction with Sea Rd in a south westwards direction for a distance of 35m will be amended to Beach Road East. Pay and display 8am-8pm Mon-Sun on Beach Rd the northwest side from a point 85m southwest of its junction with Sea Rd in a south westwards direction for 120m will be amended to Beach Rd East. Pay and display 8am-5pm Mon-Sun on: East St the south side from a point 1m east of the east kerb of East St for 30m; Mile End Rd west side from a point 8m north of its junction with Queen St for 50m; Salem St the north side from a point 15m east of its junction with River Dr east for 54m; Stanhope St south side from a point 2m west of its junction with Brigham Place to a point 5m east of its junction with Mile End Rd; Beach Rd the north side from a point 40m east of its junction with Fowler St to a point 19m west of its junction with Anderson St and Lawe Rd east side from a point 19m north of its junction with Ocean Rd/Sea Rd in a northerly direction for 91m. Period of parking to be amended to include no return same day.
Pay and display 8am-5pm Mon-Sun William Street, South Shields east side
from a point 30m north of the north kerbline of Thomas Street northwards for 11m and from a point 4m north of the north kerbline of Thomas Street
northwards for a distance of 9.5m to be deleted in their entirety. Full details of these proposals are contained in the draft order which, together with a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be inspected from Monday to Friday during normal office hours at the Town Hall at the address below. If you wish to raise an objection, express support or make any other observations about these proposals, you must make them in writing to the Council’s Legal Services Department at the address below or by using the same email address above by the 28 May 2024 . Any objections must specify the grounds on which they are made.
