THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
(ROAD CLOSURES AT STADIUM OF LIGHT
AND SOUTHWICK AREA SUNDERLAND)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024

Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 2nd May 2024 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily: a) Prohibit all vehicular traffic (except valid permit holders, police, ambulance and fire and rescue vehicles, vehicles used in connection with the said events and cleansing vehicles operated by Sunderland City Council) from the following roads for their entire lengths on Sheepfolds North, Sheepfolds Road, Easington Street, Easington Street North, Wilson Street North, Brooke Street, Stobart Street, Hay Street, Stadium Way, Vaux Brewery Way, Millennium Way, Keir Hardie Way, Stoney Lane, Cumberland Street, Queens Road, Southwick Road, Rosebery Street and the back streets associated with them; (b) Prohibit all southbound vehicles (except police, ambulance and fire and rescue services, vehicles used in connection with the said events and cleansing vehicles operated by Sunderland City Council) from A1018 North Bridge Street for its entire length; and (c) Prohibit all northbound vehicles (except police, ambulance and fire and rescue services, vehicles used in connection with the said events and cleansing vehicles operated by Sunderland City Council) from Bridge Street for its entire length. The Order is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public due to serious traffic congestion which is likely to occur in connection with an event being held at the Stadium of Light on 22nd May 2024 namely the Bruce Springsteen Concert. The provisions of the Order come into force at 00:01 a.m. on 22nd May 2024 and ceases to have effect at 02.00 a.m. on 23rd May 2024. The prohibitions shall apply only at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. During the closure of the roads on the Sheepfolds Industrial Estate area, access will be maintained by a permit system for workers who operate from the Industrial Estate. Permit holders will be allowed entry and egress during normal opening hours via Sheepfolds North. Patrons and visitors to the Sheepfolds area will be vetted by officers staffing the road closures, only allowing genuine visitors to the business premises and preventing concert goers from parking there. Residents access for Howard Street and Rosebery Street will be maintained at all times. Diversion routes will be signed on the highway network.
Dated: 3rd May 2024. Patrick Melia, Chief Executive,
