LEEDS CITY COUNCIL

The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 2024

Temporary Road Closures and Prohibitions/Restrictions of Traffic

Saturday 11 And Sunday 12 May 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Leeds City Council as traffic authority for the Leeds Metropolitan District has made the Leeds City Council (Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 2024) (Temporary Traffic Prohibitions and Restrictions) Order 2024 under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as inserted by Section 1 of the Road Traffic Regulation (Special Events) Act 1994, prohibiting, and restricting the use of certain roads and road junctions by vehicles to facilitate the holding of the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (incorporating the Half Marathon) on Sunday 12 May 2024 (‘the Event’).

The Event will require (i) the closure of roads and road junctions; (ii) the prohibition of access to certain roads; and (iii) the suspension of a number of parking places, waiting restrictions and one-way traffic provisions, on the days and at the times as set out in the Schedule below. Where necessary, local diversions will be in operation, signed as appropriate. Additional roads may also be closed at the direction of a police constable in uniform, to facilitate alternative routes.

Any vehicle deemed to be causing a nuisance and/or obstruction on the roads or road junctions specified in the Schedule to the Order shall be authorised by the Council to be removed by an approved contractor under its statutory duties and powers to facilitate the holding of the Event.

The Order will not at any time prevent access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to any road to which the Order relates, or to any premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from, any such road.

The restrictions will not apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Event (including those used for stewarding, crowd management and traffic management purposes), or to anything undertaken on the direction of or with the permission of a police constable in uniform or a traffic marshal, or any other official so authorised in the control and operation of the Event, or in accordance with any sign placed by West Yorkshire Police. Emergency access will be maintained for the Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance purposes and for organisations responsible for dealing with the loss of supplies of gas, electricity, water or electronic communications, to premises in the area and for the removal of any obstruction to traffic.

All communications with regard to this Notice should be addressed to Traffic Engineering, Highways & Transportation, Civic Hall, Calverley Street, LS1 1UR for the attention of Nick Gardiner (Tel: 0113 378 8086) (Email: Nick.gardiner@leeds.gov.uk) Dated this 2nd day of May 2024
