What is happening?
A249 TRUNK ROAD (GROVEHURST ROAD INTERCHANGE TO COWSTEAD CORNER) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A249 Trunk Road in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) of the
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road by contractors working on behalf of SSEN.
The effect of the Order is to: -
1. authorise the overnight closure of: -
a) both carriageways of the A249 between Kingsferry Junction (Sheppey Way) and Cowstead Corner (A2500); and
b) the link road directly connecting the northbound carriageways of the A249 either side of Cowstead Roundabout (A2500); and
c) the slip road leading to the northbound carriageway of the A249 at Grovehurst Road Interchange (B2005).
2. authorise the 24-hour closure of the lay-by adjacent to the southbound carriageway of the A249 between points 428 metres and 750 metres south
from the centre point of the A2500 roundabout.
These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake the replacement of overhead power cables and all associated works.
It is expected that the work will last for approximately 1 week starting on or after Monday 20th May 2024.
The overnight closures will take place between 19:00 and 05:00 (maximum periods) on Monday 20th May and again on Thursday 23rd May. Please consult National Highways or Kent County Council’s websites
for further details.
The Order will come into force on 18th May 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closure of the main carriageway will be diverted using the A2500 and Sheppey Way in either direction. Traffic affected by the closure of the slip at Grovehurst Road Interchange will be diverted southbound on the A249 to Bobbing Interchange (B2006) and return.
The temporary closures and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
