Newcastle and Gateshead Marathon - Road Closure to Allow the Event to Be Carried Out Safely on or Near the Highway

What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE (NEWCASTLE AND GATESHEAD MARATHON, HALF MARATHON AND 10k EVENT) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 26 April 2024 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

2. The effect of the Order is to prohibit all vehicles from proceeding on -
(i) Skinnerburn Road - for its entire length,
(ii) B1600 (Close, Sandhill & Quayside) - from its junction with Skinnerburn Road to its junction with Sandgate, and
(iii) Swing Bridge - for its entire length.

3. The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on site as required.

4. The Order is required to facilitate the holding of the Newcastle and Gateshead Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k Event (“the Event”), enable members of the public to watch the Event and reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.

5. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles involved with the Event and where possible, for police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call.

6. The Order will come into operation on 5 May 2024 and will continue for one day, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. The roads will be closed between approximately 06:00 and 16:00, although the roads may be reopened earlier if it is safe to do so.
