What is happening?

Stansted Airport Limited (Thremhall Avenue & Coopers End Road) (Amendment No.1)  (Restricted Road - 30MPH Speed Limit & Revocations) Order 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Stansted Airport Limited proposes to make an Order under Sections 81, 82 (1) (a), (2) (b) and 83 (2) and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the 84 Act”) as amended and all other enabling powers, and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police For Essex Police Authority in accordance with Schedule III of Schedule 9, and as having effect by virtue of the Aerodrome Traffic (Stansted Order) 1976 and section 65 of the Airport Act 1986 the effect of which will be in respect of roads at Stansted Aerodrome proposed to make the following Order:

The effect of the Order will be to revoke the Derestricted section of Thremhall Avenue and the 40 MPH speed limit on Thremhall Avenue, Coopers End Roundabout and Terminal Road North, at Stansted Aerodrome and reinstate a restricted road status on those sections of roads, thus restricting the roads to a speed limit 30 M.P.H: -  1. The length(s) of road(s) within Stansted Aerodrome specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice shall be a restricted road for the purposes of Section 81 of the 84 Act.

SCHEDULE 1

Length(s) of Road(s) within Stansted Aerodrome: - a) Thremhall Avenue; The entire length of Thremhall Avenue from the Bassingbourn Roundabout to the Coopers End Roundabout. b) Coopers End Roundabout; The entire gyratory of Coopers End Roundabout. c) Terminal Road North; from its junction with Coopers End roundabout in a north-easterly direction for 107 metres.

2. The Order specified in Schedule 2 to this Notice is hereby revoked in part insofar as it relates to the length(s) of road(s) specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice.

a) The Stansted Airport – London (Speed Limits) Consolidation Order 2014

A COPY of the proposed Order, the relevant plan, the Stansted Airport’s statement of reasons for proposing to make the Order and extract copies of the Order being amended may be seen at Stansted Airport’s website: www.stanstedatf.com. Or may be viewed at reception in Enterprise House between 9.30am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. OBJECTIONS to the proposed Order should be sent to ian.nash@nashtraffic.co.uk or email Steve_Mills@stanstedairport.com and mark for the attention of Ian Nash. Any objections stating grounds on which they are made and quoting ref. ‘Amendment No.1 Stansted Speed Order’ must be received by me by the 21st day of May 2024. The proposal looks to amend the speed limit from being derestricted and 40mph to being a restricted road where the speed limit is restricted to 30mph for the purpose of Section 81 of the 84 Act. Reducing the speed of the road(s) would help with road safety following the increase of heavy commercial vehicles along the roads. THIS NOTICE IS DATED THIS 24th DAY OF April 2024
