A1 Area, Edinburgh - Temporary Road Restriction

What is happening?

THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

(A1 AREA) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2024 – TEMP/24/56

The Council has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate carriageway resurfacing and safety barrier upgrade works, no person shall between 19:30hrs & 06:30hrs DAILY Mon-Fri:- (a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on: (i) The Jewel, from Redsman Drv to The Jewel roundabout; & (ii) Milton Link, at its jnct with The Jewel roundabout; (b) drive or cause or permit to be driven any motor vehicle on: (i) A1, from The Jewel roundabout to 25m south-east from the Newcraighall Rail Bridge, otherwise than in a northbound direction; (ii) A1, at its jnct with The Jewel roundabout, otherwise than in a southbound direction; & (c) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on the road specified in column 1 so as to drive at a speed in excess of that specified in column 2, which shall reduce the speed limit from that specified in column 3 in the Schedule. The order shall have effect from 25/4/24 to 28/6/24. “The Lothian Regional Council (Part of the Jewel, Edinburgh) (Prohibition of Motor Vehicles) Traffic Regulation Order 1988”, “The City of Edinburgh Council (A1 Interchange at Fort Kinnaird, Edinburgh) (Bus Priority Lane) Traffic Regulation Order 2008” & “The City of Edinburgh Council (A1, The Jewel to Newcraighall, Edinburgh) (50 mph Speed Limit) Order 2006” will be suspended in relation to the bus gate on The Jewel; the bus lane on the A1 southbound off-slip Fort Kinnaird; and the 50mph speed limit on the A1 respectively, to facilitate the works. The alternative routes for vehicular traffic with respect to the one-way restrictions are via: (i) A1 south-eastbound – A199 & A1; or Milton Rd, A6106, The Wisp, A7 & Sheriffhall roundabout; & (ii) A1 north-westbound – Newcraighall, Duddingston Park Sth, Duddingston Cres & Sir Harry Lauder Rd. The alternative route for vehicular traffic with respect to the closures is via Milton Link, Duddingston Cres, Duddingston Park Sth & The Jewel.
