A27 Patcham to Stanmer - Temporary Traffic Restrictions
What is happening?
A27 TRUNK ROAD (PATCHAM TO STANMER)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the Unitary Authority of the City of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to:-
1. authorise the overnight closure of both carriageways of the A27 between Patcham Interchange (A23) and Hollingbury Interchange (Eastbound Coldean Lane, Westbound Carden Avenue), and all slip roads leading to or from these lengths of carriageway.
2. authorise the 24-hour closure of the following lay-bys: -
(a) adjacent to the westbound carriageway of the A27 between points 150 metres and 327 metres west of the centreline of Stony Mere Way underbridge; and
(b) adjacent to the westbound carriageway of the A27 between points 1130 metres and 1310 metres west of the centreline of Carden Avenue overbridge.
3. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed restriction on -
(a) the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between a point approximately 785 metres east of the centreline of Devil's Dyke Road overbridge and a point approximately 100 metres east of the centreline of Carden Avenue overbridge;
(b) the westbound carriageway of the A27 between a point approximately 970 metres west of the centreline of Stony Mere Way underbridge and the centreline of the overbridge at Patcham Interchange (A23); and
(c) all slip roads leading to and from those lengths of carriageway.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake flooding alleviation works and all associated works.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 4 1/2 months starting on or after Monday 13th May 2024. The overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 hours (maximum period). Please check National Highways website for further details.
The Order would come into force on 11th May 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Through traffic affected by the closures would be strategically diverted using the A270 and the A23 in either direction. The temporary closures, speed restrictions and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
