What is happening?

SOUTH SHIELDS FOOTPATH 666, SOUTH SHIELDS
TEMPORARY FOOTPATH / FOOTWAY CLOSURE ORDER 2024

Notice is hereby given that South Tyneside Council intends to make an Order under S.14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians on the following footpath / footway:-Sth Shields Footpath 666, Sth Shields, from side of No. 131 - 135 Steward Cre. The Order is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road, and in particular to enable Northern Gas Networks to carry out gas replacement works. The Order will come into force on the 25/4/24. The maximum duration of the prohibition under this Order will be 6 mths however it is anticipated that the prohibition will only be needed from 29/4/24 for 19 days. All pedestrians except those engaged in the works, will be prohibited on the footpath / footway described above for the duration of the works. The prohibition shall only apply at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. During the prohibition, the alternative route will be indicated via signage
