The M5 Motorway (Junction 4a To Junction 6) (Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic) Order 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company no. 9346363) has made an Order on the M5 Motorway, in the County of Worcestershire, to enable the construction of new emergency refuge areas to be carried out.

The effect of the Order will be to -

(1) impose a speed restriction of 50 miles per hour on -

(a) the northbound carriageway of the M5 from a point 1000 metres south of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the exit slip road at Junction 6, to a point 275 metres north of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the link road leading from the M42, at M5 Junction 4a;

(b) the southbound carriageway of the M5 from a point 1500 metres northeast of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the link road leading to the M42, at M5 Junction 4a, to a point 500 metres south of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the entry slip road, at Junction 6; and

(c) the westbound carriageway of the M42 from a point 500 metres east of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the link road leading to the northbound carriageway of the M5, to its junction with the southbound carriageway of the M5, at M5 Junction 4a; and

(2) close any emergency refuge area adjacent to the lengths of the M5 described in (1) (a) and (b) above.

The speed restriction and emergency refuge area closures will be in operation from 20:00 hours on Thursday 18 April 2024 for 24 hours per day for the duration of the works, which are expected to take approximately 12 months. The Order will come into force on 15 April 2024 and have a maximum duration of 18 months. Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions and closures. Vehicles being used for special forces purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions, and vehicles being used for traffic officer purposes or in connection with the works will be exempt from the closures.
