What is happening?

Various Roads, Shepton Mallet in the Parish of Shepton Mallet
(Temporary Traffic Restrictions) Order 2024

Somerset Council in exercise of its powers under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, intends to make an Order, the effect of which will be to introduce the following temporary traffic restrictions as specified in the Schedules below. This Order will come into operation on the 25th day of April 2024 and will remain in force for eighteen months.

The Works relating to Schedule 1 are expected to commence on the 29th day of April 2024 until the 26th day of May 2024 (between 0700 hours and 1730 hours) and the works relating to Schedule 2 are expected to commence on the 20th day of May 2024 until the 26th day of May 2024 (between 0700 hours and 1730 hours) to enable Renteq Tm (southwest) Limited, safe access to carry out drainage works for the new development.

The restrictions will only apply when indicated by traffic signs.

Schedule 1 - Temporary Closure of Footpath on A37 Whitstone Hill to Fosse Way
Footpath on the A37 Whitstone Hill to Fosse Way, Shepton Mallet – From a point 75 metres south from the junction with the A37 Fosse Way for a distance of 50 metres

Schedule 2 - Temporary One-Way (southbound)
A37, Whitstone Road, Fosse Way, Whitstone Hill, Shepton Mallet – From the Cannards Grave Roundabout in a southerly direction to the junction with the Whitstone Hill Roundabout (Whitstone Corner)

Statement of reasons for making the Order
a) because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road; b) because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to such works.
