The A1 Motorway, Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic Due To Carriageway Works

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 The Aim Motorway (Junction 60 To Junction 63) (Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the AIM Motorway, in County Durham, to enable carriageway works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Monday 15 April 2024 for 10 weeks, or until completed. The effect of the Order will be, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to close the A1M:

(i) northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 60 to the entry slip road at Junction 63, a distance of 27036 metres;

(ii) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 63 to the entry slip road at Junction 60, a distance of 27036 metres;

(iii) northbound entry and southbound exit slip roads at Junction 60;

(iv) northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 61;

(v) northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 62;

(vi) northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Junction 63; and

(vii) southbound entry slip road at the A195 Washington Services.

During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times. It will be necessary, 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to:

(v) impose a temporary 30mph, 40mph and 50mph speed restriction on the A1M northbound carriageway from the 900 metres south of the exit slip road at Junction 60 to the entry slip road at Junction 63, a distance of 28212 metres;

(vi) impose a temporary 30mph, 40mph and 50mph speed restriction on the A1M southbound carriageway from 715 metres north of the exit slip road at Junction 64 to the entry slip road at Junction 60, a distance of 29789 metres;

(vii) impose a contraflow system on the A1M northbound carriageway from 340 metres south of Cornforth Lane to 530 metres north of Northern Bridge, a distance of 10828 metres;

(viii) impose a temporary 30mph, 40mph and 50mph speed restriction on the A1M northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 60;

(ix) impose a temporary 30mph, 40mph and 50mph speed restriction on the A1M northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 61;

(x) impose a temporary 30mph, 40mph and 50mph speed restriction on the A1M northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 62;

(xi) impose a temporary 30mph, 40mph and 50mph speed restriction on the A1M northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 63.

Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency services vehicles, traffic officer vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance purposes).
