What is happening?

(Temporary Road and Footpath Closure) Order 2024

The Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, Section 14(1) to prohibit all vehicular and pedestrian traffic from proceeding on

Road Closure; a 190-metre length of the southbound carriageway of A689 Bishop Auckland from junction with unc road leading to Tenters Street at northern side of closure in a southerly direction to junction with roundabout of Princes Street/Bob Hardisty Drive.

Footpath Closure: a 162-metre length of footpath leading from Tenters Street to footpath leading to Westgate Road to enable carriageway widening works to be undertaken.

Throughout the period of closure, a diversion will be available to southbound vehicular traffic from north side of closure in a northerly direction on A689 then east on C188 High/North Bondgate & Market Place then south on C130 Durham Road then southwest on C130 Kingsway then west on A689 South Church Road to southern end of closure and vice versa.

And a diversion to pedestrians via Tenters Street and Newgate Street. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are to commence on 22.4.24 and are anticipated to be completed in 10 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
