Handy Drive - Temporary Traffic Regulation Order 2024

What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD 
(HANDY DRIVE, DUNSTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024

Notice is hereby given that on the 03 April 2024 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit, i) vehicles from proceeding along Handy Drive from its junction with Cross Lane in a westerly direction for a distance of 136 metres; and ii) pedestrians/cyclists from proceeding along the shared use cycleway/footway (Route No.14) which crosses Cross Lane perpendicularly within the works area linking to Handy Drive. The Order is required to facilitate resurfacing and raised table installation works. The Order will come into force at 20:00 on the 08 April 2024. 
The maximum duration of the Order will be 18 months, however the works are expected to be completed by the 12 April 2024. The prohibitions will be operative overnight between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00. During the works all vehicles and pedestrians (except vehicles and pedestrians associated with the works and emergency service vehicles on duty) will be prohibited from proceeding along the lengths of highway above until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. During the works there will be a signed diversion in place.
