TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the M4 Motorway in the Unitary Authorities of Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order is to: -
1. authorise the overnight closure of -
(a) the road connecting to the westbound carriageway of the M4 from both carriageways of the A329(M) at Junction 10 (A329M);
(b) the roads leading to and from both carriageways of the M4 at Junction 11 (A33);
(c) the road leading from the westbound carriageway of the M4 at Junction 12 (A4); and
(d) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the M4 at Junction 12 (A4).
2. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed restriction on -
(a) the westbound carriageway of the M4 between a point 490 metres west of the centreline of the A321 Twyford Road overbridge and a point 85 metres west of the centreline of the High Street footbridge at Junction 12 (A4);
(b) the London-bound carriageway of the M4 between a point 85 metres west of the centreline of the High Street footbridge at Junction 12 (A4) and a point 500 metres west of the centreline of the A329(M) overbridge; and
(c) all slip/link roads leading to and from this length of carriageway.
3. Impose, alternatively, a 24-hour 60mph speed restriction on the lengths of carriageway and slip/link roads described in 2. above.
These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake installation of new emergency refuge areas and all associated works.
It is expected that the work will last for approximately 18 months starting on or after Monday 8th April 2024. The overnight closures will take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). Please see the National Highways website for further details.
The Order will come into force on 6th April 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted via other junctions of the M4 and by using the A329(M). The diversion route in operation will vary depending on the closure in force.
The temporary speed limit, closures and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
