What is happening?

THE SWANAGE TOWN COUNCIL

(OFF-STREET PARKING PLACES) ORDER 2024

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Swanage Town Council has made the above-mentioned Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.

2. The Order refers to all of the off-street parking places managed by Swanage Town Council, namely: Broad Road; Central (Co-op), Kings Road West; Station Approach; Residents', Horsecliffe Lane; North Beach and Journey's End (Overflow); Main Beach and King George's Field (Overflow); Mermond Place; Peveril Point Boat Park; Peveril Point Road - Residents (east of the Boat Park) and Fishers' Car Park; Mowlem Turning Circle; Mowlem Slipway; Parish Slipway; and the Boat Park Slipway.

3. When the Order comes into operation on Monday 1st April 2024 the effect of the Order will be to:

• Revoke The Swanage Town Council (Off-Street Parking Places) Order 2007 (as amended) and reinstate those provisions save for the amendments proposed and re-enact those provisions without any change of substance other than as set out in this notice.

• Introduce tariff changes in certain car parks, as advertised in the Daily Echo on Wednesday 7th February 2024 and online at https://www.swanage.gov.uk/OffstreetParkingPlacesOrder2024.aspx

• Introduce free overnight parking in Broad Road, Main Beach and North Beach car parks.

• Introduce changes to the Residents' Permit scheme, including increased periods of free parking in the long-stay car parks.

• Introduce provisions to regulate the charging of electric vehicles in certain car parks.

• Introduce allocated multiuse parking bays for longer vehicles in certain car parks.

• Prohibit overnight parking of motorhomes in all car parks managed by the Town Council.

• Introduce one-hour no return periods in the short-stay car parks.

• Introduce changes to the Peveril Point Parking Pass scheme, Peveril Point Road.

•Introduce separate provisions for the management of the Fishers' Car Park, Peveril Point Road.

• Remove Sandpit Field, Queen Elizabeth II (Forres) Field and the hardstanding on Shore Road from the Off-Street Parking Order.

• Remove the statement that those using a parking place for the purpose of teaching learner drivers shall be liable to prosecution.

5. If you wish to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with, you may, within 6 weeks from the date of this Notice, apply to the High Court for that purpose.
