M69 And M1 Motorways - Prohibition Of Traffic For Maintenance Works

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14(1)(a) AND (7)
THE M69 AND M1 MOTORWAYS (SOUTH OF M69 JUNCTION 1 TO M1 JUNCTION 21)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 9346363) has made an Order on the M69 and M1 Motorways, in the Counties of Warwickshire and Leicestershire, to enable safety barrier, maintenance, resurfacing and technical survey works to be carried out.

The effect of the Order, will be to, at different times –

(1) impose a 50 miles per hour speed restriction on –

(a) the northbound carriageway of the M69 from the centreline of the B4114 Lutterworth Road overbridge, at Shelford, to its roundabout junction with the A5460 and the M1 slip roads, at Leicester (M1 Junction 21 Roundabout);

(b) the southbound carriageway of the M69 from its junction with the M1 Junction 21 Roundabout, to the centreline of the B4114 Lutterworth Road overbridge, at Shelford; and (c) the M1 Junction 21 Roundabout;

(2) close –

(a) the northbound carriageway of the M69 from its junction with the exit slip road at Junction 1, to its junction with the M1 Junction 21 Roundabout;

(b) the southbound carriageway of the M69 from its junction with the M1 Junction 21 Roundabout, to its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 1;

(c) the entry slip road leading to the northbound carriageway of the M69 at Junction 1;

(d) the entry slip road leading to the northbound carriageway of the M69 at Junction 2;

(e) the exit slip road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M69 at Junction 1;

(f) the exit slip road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M69 at Junction 2; and

(g) any gap in the central reservation of the lengths of the M69 described in (2)(a) and (b) above.

The work is expected to commence on Monday 8 April 2024 and continue for approximately eight months. The closures will be in operation overnight between 20:00 hours and 06:00 hours with some full weekend closures between 20:00 hour on Friday and 06:00 hours on Monday during the period between 19 July 2024 and 30 September 2024.

The speed restrictions will be in operation from 20:00 hours on Monday 8 April 2024, for twenty-four hours per day for the duration of the works. The Order will come into force on 1 April 2024.

Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions and closures. Vehicles being used for traffic officer purposes or in connection with the works will be exempt from the closures, and vehicles being used for special forces purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions.

Diversion routes via the A5, the A4303, the M1 Junctions 20 and J21, the B4669, the B4114 and the B4065 will be signed.
