A34 TRUNK ROAD - MILTON TO CHIEVELEY TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A34 Trunk Road in the County of Oxfordshire and the Unitary Authority of West Berkshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to authorise:-
1) the overnight and total weekend closure of the southbound carriageway of the A34 between East Ilsley Interchange and Chieveley Interchange (M4 Junction 13), and all of the slip and link roads leading to and from that carriageway, and a supplementary ban on vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes between Milton Interchange (A4130) and Chieveley Interchange
(M4 Junction 13).
2) the 24-hour closure of all of the lay-bys adjacent to the southbound carriageway of the A34 between Milton Interchange (A4130) and Chieveley Interchange (M4 Junction 13).
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake resurfacing, stud replacement, road marking, and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 3 months starting on Friday 19th April 2024. The Monday to Friday closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). The weekend closures would start on Fridays at 21:00 and end Mondays 06:00. Please consult National Highways website for details of all closures. The Order would come into force on 17th April 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Through traffic requiring the M4 or A34 south of Chieveley affected by the closure would be diverted strategically using the A40/Oxford Bypass, M40, M25, and the M4.
Access for heavy goods vehicles will be permitted south to Milton only, where they should take the A4130 in either direction if travelling to Harwell or Didcot. Any remaining traffic not requiring access to East Ilsley and not suitable for the narrow roads should leave at West Ilsley (Bury Lane) and return northwards. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
