M4 MOTORWAY - JUNCTIONS 11 TO 12

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M4 Motorway in the Unitary Authorities of Reading, Wokingham, and West Berkshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-

1. authorise the overnight and full weekend closure of both carriageways of the M4 between Junction 11 (A33) and Junction 12 (A4), and all slip roads leading to and from these lengths of carriageway;

2. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on the westbound carriageway of the M4 between points 1280 metres and 580 metres west of the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road to the Reading Services; and

3. impose a 24-hour 40mph speed limit on -

(a) the westbound carriageway of the M4 between points 580 metres west of the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road to the Reading Services and 375 metres east of the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road from the Reading Services;

(b) the slip road leading from the westbound carriageway of the M4 to Reading Services; and

(c) the slip road leading to the westbound carriageway of the M4 to Reading Services, from a point 120 east of the tip of the nosing.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake bridge protective coat re-painting and all associated works.

It is expected that the work would last for approximately 3 months starting on or after Monday 15th April 2024. The overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00. The weekend closures would take place on one carriageway at a time, between 21:00 on Fridays and 06:00 on Mondays (maximum period). Please see the National Highways website for further details.

The Order would come into force on 13th April 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.

Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using the A4, A33 and Rose Kiln Lane. The diversion route in operation would vary depending on the closure in force. The temporary speed limits, closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
