What is happening?

THE BOROUGH OF STOCKTON-ON-TEES
ELTON INTERCHANGE
(VARIOUS SPEED LIMITS) ORDER 2023

Notice is hereby given that Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council made the above Order under Section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act.

The Order, which came into effect on 22nd March 2024, has the effect of reducing the length of the road currently subject to a 50mph speed limit as specified in Schedule 1 below, reducing the speed limit from National (60mph) to 40mph along the lengths of Darlington Road, Elton as specified in Schedule 2 below and reducing the speed limit from 50mph to 40mph along the lengths of Yarm Back Lane, Stockton as specified in Schedule 3 below.

An additional effect of the Order will be to change the status of the A66 overbridge between Durham Lane and Yarm Back Lane to an urban restricted road whilst the speed limit along the lengths of Darlington Road, Hartburn which are currently subject to 50mph and not subject to the proposed 40mph restriction will also revert to an urban restricted road for which the speed limit is 30mph.

A further effect of the Order will be to change the status of the southern length of Yarm Back Lane to an urban restricted road for which the speed limit is 30mph.

The sealed Order, together with a map showing the affected roads, may be examined at the Stockton Customer Service Centre, Central Library, The Square, Stocktonon- Tees during normal office hours and on the Council’s website (Traffic Orders).

SCHEDULE 1 - Revised Length of 50mph Section
Durham Lane, Stockton - From a point approximately 160 metres south of its junction with A66/Elton Interchange in a southerly direction to a point approximately 405 metres south of its junction with Cleasby Way.

SCHEDULE 2 - Revised Speed Limit from National (60mph) to 40mph
Darlington Road, Elton, Stockton - From a point approximately 88 metres west of its junction with Durham Lane in a westerly direction for a distance of approximately 470 metres.

SCHEDULE 3 - Revised Speed Limit from 50mph to 40mph
Yarm Back Lane, Stockton - From its junction with Darlington Back Lane in a southerly direction for a distance of approximately 1616 metres.
