What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 SECTION 90C
(BIRTLEY CYCLEWAY - VARIOUS) PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD HUMPS 2024

NOTICE is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead in exercise of its powers under Section 90A of the Highways Act 1980 and after consultation and in accordance with Section 90C of the Highways Act 1980 proposes to construct road humps complying with the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999 as part of road safety improvements to the cycle infrastructure and footways in Birtley.

The proposals consist of the introduction of 47 raised tables at various locations around Durham Road and Vigo Lane, Birtley as set out in the schedule below. The current speed limit on the roads affected is 20mph and 30mph. No other traffic calming features will be undertaken. Signs will be erected and road markings provided in accordance with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 at all appropriate locations.

All details of the proposal are shown on plans which may be inspected online at http://www.gateshead.gov.uk/trafficschemes or examined at the information desk on the ground floor of Gateshead Council’s Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH Monday to Thursday between 8:45am and 5:00pm and Friday between 8:45am and 4:30pm (Ref: IKEN/018885). If you wish to object to the proposal, you should send the grounds for your objection in writing to the above address to be received by the undersigned on or before the 15 April 2024.
