M1 and A50 Trunk Road, Leicestershire / Derbyshire / Nottinghamshire - Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTIONS 14(1)(a) AND, 14(7)
THE M1 MOTORWAY AND A50 TRUNK ROAD
(M1 JUNCTION 23A TO NORTHEAST OF JUNCTION 25)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 9346363) has made an Order on the M1 Motorway and on the A50 Trunk Road, in the Counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, to enable emergency refuge area construction and associated works to be carried out.
The effect of the Order, will be to, at different times, –
(1) impose a 50 miles per hour speed restriction on –
(a) the northbound carriageway of the M1 from the tip of the nosing at its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 23a, to a point 300 metres north of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 25;
(b) the southbound carriageway of the M1 from the centreline of the A6007 Stapleford Road overbridge, at Trowell, to the tip of the nosing at its junction with the exit slip road at Junction 23a;
(c) the entry and exit slip roads leading to and from the northbound carriageway of the M1 at Junction 24;
(d) the entry slip road leading to the southbound carriageway of the M1 at Junction 24;
(e) the exit slip road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M1 at Junction 24, from the tip of the nosing at its junction with the M1, for a distance of 300 metres;
(f) the exit slip road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M1 at Junction 24a, from the tip of the nosing at its junction with the M1, for a distance of 305 metres;
(g) the link road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the A50, to the northbound carriageway of the M1 at Junction 24a; and
(h) any slip road leading to or from the M1 at Junction 25;
(i) the eastbound carriageway of the A50 from the tip of the nosing at its junction with the entry slip road leading from the roundabout junction with the B5010, the B6540, Trent Lane and Ryecroft Road, at Sawley, to a point 250 metres southeast of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the link road leading to the northbound carriageway of the M1 at Junction 24a, and
(2) close any emergency refuge area adjacent to –
(a) the northbound carriageway of the M1 from its junction with the exit slip road at Junction 23a, to its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 25; or
(b) the southbound carriageway of the M1 from its junction with the exit slip road at Junction 25, to its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 23a.
The work is expected to start on Monday 25 March 2024 and continue for approximately eight months. The Order will come into force on 22 March 2024 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restriction and closures. Vehicles being used for special forces purposes will be exempt from the speed restriction, and vehicles being used for traffic officer purposes, in connection with the works or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures.
