What is happening?
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
The Gla Roads And Gla Side Roads (London Borough Of Sutton) (Speed Limits) Order 2024
1. Transport for London hereby gives notice that on 8th March 2024 it made the above named Order, under sections 83 and 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The Order will come into force on 18th March 2024.
2. The general nature and effect of the Order would be to impose a speed limit of:
(1) 20 MPH speed limit on the A232 Ewell Road, High Street - Cheam, Cheam Road, Sutton Park Walk, Grove Road, Sutton Court Road, Chalk Pit Way, Carshalton Road, Pound Street, High Street - Carshalton and Acre Lane, A217 Rose Hill Roundabout and Reigate Avenue between Rose Hill Roundabout and Nos.11 Reigate Avenue, A297 St Helier Avenue between Rose Hill Roundabout and No.12 Rosehill Court Parade and all GLA Side Roads - Red Route returns of these roads;
(2) 30 MPH speed limit on the A217 St Dunstan's Hill/ Belmont Road between a point 75 metres south of Salisbury Avenue and Lumley Road, A217 Reigate Avenue between No.11 and No.94 Reigate Avenue and the A297 St Helier Avenue between No.12 Rosehill Court Parade and the Borough boundary between Merton and Sutton.
The Order will also consolidate the existing 20 MPH scheme on A232 Ewell Road, High Street - Cheam.
3. The roads which would be affected by the Order are GLA Main Roads and all GLA Side Roads - Red Route returns of these roads in the London Borough of Sutton as listed in article 2 above.
4. The roads affected are currently subject to a permanent speed limit of 30 MPH and 40 MPH.
5. A copy of the Order, a map indicating the location and effect of the Order and copies of any Order(s) revoked, suspended or varied by the Order can be inspected by appointment at our offices at the address below by emailing trafficordersection@tfl.gov.uk. Copies of the documents may be requested via email at trafficordersection@tfl.gov.uk, or by post at the following address quoting reference NP/REGULATION/STOT/BS/TRO/GLA/2024/0319:

6. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that they are not within the relevant powers conferred by the Act or that any requirement of the Act has not been complied with, that person may, within six weeks from the date on which the Order is made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
