Commercial Street, Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic Due To Resurfacing Works

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

The A1202 Gla Road (Commercial Street, London Boroughs Of Hackney And Tower Hamlets) (Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic And Stopping) Order 2024

1. Transport for London hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable resurfacing works to take place at A1202 Commercial Street.

3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from entering, exiting or proceeding:

(1) and stopping on Commercial Street between its junctions with

A10 Shoreditch High Street and Whitechapel High Street. Local access will be maintained between its junctions between Whitechapel High Street and Pomell Way;

(2) on Elder Street between its junctions with Fleur de Lis Street and Commercial Street:

(3) on Fleur de Lis Street between its junction with Commercial Street and the extended eastern building line of Philip Blairman House;

(4) on Wheler Street between its junctions with Calvin Street and Commercial Street;

(5) on Jerome Street between its junctions with Corbet Place and Commercial Street;

(6) on Folgate Street between its junctions with Wheeler Lane and Commercial Street;

(7) on Lamb Street between its junction with Commercial Street and the ingress/egress to Spitalfields Market;

(8) on Hanbury Lane between its junctions with Corbet Place;

(9) on Brushfield Street between its junctions with Crispin Street and Commercial Street;

(10) on Fournier Street between its junctions with Wilkes Street and Commercial Street;

(11) on Fashion Street between its junction with Commercial Street and the northern boundary of No.74 Commercial Street;

(12) on Thrawl Street between its junctions with Nathaniel Close and Commercial Street

(13) on the eastern arm of Wentworth Street between its junction with Commercial Street and the eastern bounday of No.40 Commercial Street

(14) on the western arm of Wentworth Street between its junctions with Commercial Street and Toybee Street

The Order also allows two-way operation on:

(15) Elder Street between its junctions with Folgate Street and Fleur De Lis Street

(16) Wheler Street between its junctions with Quaker Street and Calvin Street

(17) Fournier Street between its junctions with Wilkes Street and Brick Lane;

(18) Fashion Street between its junctions with Commercial Street and Brick Lane;

(19) Quaker Street between its junctions with Wheler Street and Grey Eagle Street.

The Order will be effective at certain times from 27th March 2024 and 27th June 2024 each night Monday to Saturday 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM (ceasing at 5:00 AM on Saturday) or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibition will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:

(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;

(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

5. At such times as the prohibition is in force an alternative route will be indicated by traffic signs via: (for traffic wishing to travel Southwards) A1209 Bethnal Green Road, A107 Cambridge Heath Road, A11 Whitechapel Road and A11 Whitechapel High Street to normal route of travel; (for traffic wishing to travel southwards) Shoreditch High Street, Norton Folgate, Bishopsgate, A1211 Camomile Street, Outwich Street, Houndsditch and St. Botolph Street normal route of travel; (for traffic wishing to travel northwards) St. Botolph Street, Dukes Place, Beavis Marks, Camomile Street, Bishopsgate, Whitechapel High Street to normal route of travel; Shoreditch High Street, Norton and Shoreditch High Street to normal route of travel.
