A167 Tyne Bridge - Temporary Road Restrictions For Maintenance Works
What is happening?

(A167 TYNE BRIDGE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION (No. 2) ORDER 2024
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 14th March 2024 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to -
(i) prohibit all traffic (vehicles, pedestrians and other traffic) from proceeding on-
(a) City Road southbound on-slip road from Swanhouse Roundabout on to Tyne Bridge,
(b) Heath Court between City Road (the on-slip of the Tyne Bridge) and the access road (Pilgrim Street) to the Spire Building,
(c) A167 Tyne Bridge, southbound - between the southbound off-slip to Swanhouse Roundabout to its junction with Eastgate, and
(d) A167 Tyne Bridge, northbound - between Bottle Bank and northbound off-slip to Swanhouse Roundabout.
(ii) introduce a temporary 30mph speed limit on the A167 in both directions between the southbound off slip to Swanhouse Roundabout on Newcastle side and the junction with Eastgate on Gateshead side.
2. Appropriate traffic management will be in place during the closures.
3. The Order is required to ensure major maintenance works can be carried out on the Tyne Bridge in a safe environment.
4. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles and persons engaged in the works and where possible, for police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles and personnel on emergency call.
5. The Order will come into operation on 19th March 2024 and will continue, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed for a period of up to 5 years, however, the roads will only be closed as and when required.
The temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place throughout the works period.
