What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
(SUNNISIDE MARKETS)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024

Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 14th March 2024 it made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended), and with the consent of the Secretary of State under Section 16B of that Act, in order to facilitate the holding of relevant events, namely the Sunniside Markets (‘the Events’) which are to take place on Saturday 23rd March 2024, Saturday 22nd June 2024, Saturday 28th September 2024 and Sunday 22nd December 2024. The effect of the Order is to: (i) prohibit vehicular, pedestrian, cycle and horse traffic along the lengths of roads specified in the Schedules; and (ii) prohibit vehicles from waiting and loading/unloading along all the lengths of roads as specified in the Schedule.
The Order shall come into force at 07.00 hours on Saturday 23rd March 2024 and shall cease to have effect at 19.00 hours on Sunday 22nd December 2024. During the Events, diversions for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders will be signposted via the adjacent road and highway network not required for the Event. The prohibitions shall apply at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. There are exemptions in the Order for police, fire and rescue services and ambulance vehicles and personnel on duty and attending emergency calls, vehicles being used in connection with the Event and persons officiating in the Event.
SCHEDULE - ROADS TO BE CLOSED IN CONNECTION WITH THE EVENT AND PROHIBITION OF WAITING AND LOADING / UNLOADING AT ANY TIME
The following are for the extent stated: West Sunniside from its junction with St Thomas Street to its junction with Athenaeum Street; Norfolk Street for its entire length; and Coronation Street from its southern junction with Norfolk Street East Rear to its western extent.
