Swale, Multiple Temporary Traffic Regulation Notices

What is happening?

Highways

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.

SWALE AREA

A251 ASHFORD ROAD, NORTH STREET, SHELDWICH. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2024

To allow new connection works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of the A251 Ashford Road, North Street, Sheldwich, on or after 2nd April 2024, for up to 3 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of White Gables, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic:-

Travelling southbound is via the A2 Canterbury Road, London Road, Brenley Corner roundabout, A2 Boughton Bypass, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, Rheims Way, St Peters roundabout, Rheims Way, A28 Wincheap Green, Thanington Road, Ashford Road, Canterbury Road, A252 Maidstone Road, The Street and Canterbury Road.

Travelling northbound is via the A252 Canterbury Road, The Street, Maidstone Road, A28 Canterbury Road, Ashford Road, Thanington Road, A2 Boughton Bypass, Brenley Corner roundabout, A2 London Road and Canterbury Road.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

BUTLERS HILL, DARGATE. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2024

To allow pole replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Butlers Hill, Dargate, on or after 2nd April 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 10.30 and 16.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junction with Crockham Road and the junction with Dargate Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Dargate Road, Courtenay Road, A2 Canterbury Road, The Street, Staplestreet Road, Church Hill and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

HAWKS HILL LANE, BREDGAR. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2024

To allow new connection works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Hawks Hill Lane, Bredgar, on or after 1st April 2024, with estimated completion by 3rd April 2024, between the hours of 09.30 and 15.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with Bexon Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Bexon Lane, The Street, Bashford Barn Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

LOWER HARTLIP ROAD, HARTLIP, ME9 7TU (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Lower Hartlip Road, Hartlip, on or after 18th March 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 09.30 and 15.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junction with Old House Lane and the junction with Mount Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Hollow Lane, The Street, Mount Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

SEASALTER ROAD, GRAVENEY, ME13 9EA (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2024

To allow new connection works to be carried out on the carriageway and footway, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Seasalter Road, Graveney, on or after 2nd April 2024, for up to 3 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside Graveney Primary School, from the junction with Murton Place to the junction with Sandbanks Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for through traffic under 11’ 6” (3.5m) is via Head Hill Road, Whitstable Road, A299 Thanet Way, Thanet Way Slip Way, A2990 Thanet Way, Borstal Hill, Joy Lane, Faversham Road, Seasalter Road and vice versa.

The alternative route for through traffic over 11’ 6” (3.5m) (avoiding the low bridge on Faversham Road) is via Head Hill Road, Whitstable Road, A299 Thanet Way, High Street Road (A299 overbridge and Dargate on-slip in reverse), Monkshill Road and Seasalter Road.

Gatemen will be positioned on Monkshill Road between the hours of 07.00 and 19.00 to control HGV movements due to the narrowness of the road. An additional gateman will be sited in Headhill Road during school start and finish times to assist with traffic management.

Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure if safe to do so.

Due to the nature of these works, it will not be possible to reopen the road outside of working hours.

SWANTON STREET, BREDGAR. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2024

To allow overhead cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Swanton Street, Bredgar, on or after 4th April 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 10.30 and 16.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with Blind Mary’s Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Swanton Street, The Street, Primrose Lane, Bredgar Road, Hearts Delight Road, Bannister Hill, Borden Lane, A2 London Road, Key Street, Key Street roundabout, A249 Maidstone Road, Stockbury roundabout, Sittingbourne Road, Detling Hill, Bearsted Road, New Cut Road, A20 Ashford Road, B2163 Eyhorne Street, Upper Street, Hollingbourne Hill, Court Dane Shaws and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

THE STREET, HARTLIP, ME9 7TP (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2024

To allow repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of The Street, Hartlip, on or after 3rd April 2024, for up to 3 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of Greenbank, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Mount Lane, Lower Hartlip Road, Munns Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

WARDWELL LANE, LOWER HALSTOW, ME9 7FG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2024

To allow repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Wardwell Lane, Lower Halstow, on or after 2nd April 2024, for up to 4 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with School Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Iwade Road (Church Lane), Basser Hill, Sheerness Road, Vicarage Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

WISES LANE, BORDEN. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow the installation of new apparatus and S278 development works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Wises Lane, Borden, on or after 18th March 2024, with estimated completion by 30th June 2024, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between Maylam Gardens and Cryalls Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via The Street, Borden Lane, A2 London Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

VARIOUS ROADS, SWALE - PRESERVATION TREATMENTS. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING AND TEMPORARY 40 MPH & 20 MPH SPEED RESTRICTIONS) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow patching and preservation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on various roads in Swale.

This Order takes effect on or after 18th March 2024, for a period of up to 18 months or until works have been completed. It may be necessary for some of the roads to be closed for multiple occasions for each phase of the works. Planned dates will be published in advance of the works on One.Network and indicated by signage displayed on site 14 days before they start.

After the Surface Treatment works, a temporary speed limit of 40 mph & 20 mph may need to be imposed on certain roads for a period of up to 7 days. Where the 40 mph & 20 mph speed restriction does apply, this will be clearly indicated by relevant signs displayed on site.

These works are subject to weather and other factors which may potentially cause changes at short notice; every effort will be made to keep as close as possible to the planned dates that are notified, and any changes will be publicised.

SCHEDULE

Road Closures

Porters Lane, Sheldwich

The road will be closed from the A251 Faversham Road to Brogdale Road (Eastling Road), Ospringe, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via the A251 Faversham Road, A2 London Road, Brogdale Road, Eastling Road and vice versa.

Crockham Road, Hernhill

The road will be closed from Butler Hill to Crockham Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Crockham Lane, Butler Hill and vice versa.

The Street, Doddington including Faversham Road, Newnham

The road will be closed from Ringlestone Road to the A2 London Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via the A2 London Road, A251 Ashford Road, A251 Faversham Road, A252 Canterbury Road, A252 Charing Hill, A20 Maidstone Road, A20 Ashford Road, Faversham Road and vice versa.

A2 Canterbury Road, Faversham

The road will be closed from Love Lane to Preston Park, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via the A2 Faversham Road, M2, A251 Ashford Road (turning to Faversham), A2 London Road and vice versa.

The non motorway alternative route is via Love Lane, Whitstable Road, East Street, Newton Road, Station Road, The Mall and vice versa.

Canterbury Road, Boughton under Blean

The road will be closed from Chalkey Road to Stockers Hill, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route towards Dunkirk is via the A2 Boughton Bypass, London Road (Harbledown turn off), Upper Harbledown Road, A2 Boughton Bypass, Dunkirk westbound slip off (towards Dunkirk), Canterbury Road, The Street and Canterbury Road.

The alternative route towards Faversham access to Chalkey Road only is via Canterbury Road, A2 Boughton Bypass, Brenley roundabout, back on the A2 Boughton Bypass and Canterbury Road.

A2 Key Street/London Road, Sittingbourne

The road will be closed from Key Street roundabout to the Billet pub, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route towards Faversham is via the A249 Maidstone Road, M2 Brenley roundabout (Faversham turn off), A2 St Micheal’s Road, Dover Street, West Street and A2 London Road.

The alternative route towards Keycol roundabout is via the A2 London Road, St Micheal’s Road, A2 Brenley roundabout, M2 towards Medway, A249 Turn off and A249 Maidstone Road.

The alternative route for local traffic/non motorway traffic is via Chestnut Street, School Lane, Pond Farm Road, The Street, Borden Road and the A2.

Speed restrictions

It will be necessary to impose a 40 mph speed limit on the approach to, and then a 20mph speed limit through, working sites on various roads in Swale, as detailed below:-

Porters Lane, Sheldwich - between the junctions of the A251 Faversham Road and Brogdale Road (Eastling Road), Ospringe.

Crockham Road, Hernhill - between the junctions of Butler Hill and Crockham Lane.

The Street, Doddington including Faversham Road, Newnham - between the junctions of Ringlestone Road and the A2 London Road.

A2 Canterbury Road, Faversham - between the junctions of Love Lane and Preston Park.

Canterbury Road, Boughton under Blean - between the junctions of Chalkey Road and Stockers Hill.

A2 Key Street/London Road, Sittingbourne - between Key Street roundabout and the Billet pub.
