What is happening?

The County Council of Durham

(Elvet Hill Road, Durham City) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2024

The Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, Section 14(1) to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on a 470 metre length of Elvet Hill Road between its junction with South Road and Potters Bank, Durham to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken.

An alternative route is available to vehicular traffic from the south eastern side of the closure from A177 South Road northerly to the 'New Inn' traffic signal junction then westerly on Quarryheads Lane and southerly onto Potters Bank to the north western side of the closure, and vice versa.

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on 23/3/24 and are anticipated to be completed in 6 days between 7am and 7pm per day.

On occasions, alternative dates for closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly. Access will be maintained for emergency services and associated vehicles.
