ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
THE A1202 GLA ROADS (DOCK STREET, LEMAN STREET AND PRESCOT STREET, LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS) (PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
1. Transport for London having consulted the London Borough of Tower Hamlets hereby gives notice that it has made the above named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.
2. The purpose of the Order is to enable carriageway resurfacing works to take place at Leman Street.
3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from entering, exiting or proceeding:
(1) on Leman Street between its junctions with A11 Whitechapel High Street and Chamber Street;
(2) on Alie Street between its junctions with St Mark Street and Goodman Stile;
(3) on Hooper Street between its junction with Leman Street and Bowman Mews;
(4) on St Mark Street between its junctions with North Tenter Street and Alie Street;
(5) on West Tenter Street between its junctions with Prescot Street and South Tenter Street;
(6) on Prescot Street between its junctions with Leman Street and Mansell Street
(7) in a south-westerly direction on Goodman Stile between its junctions with Commercial Road and Alie Street;
(8) in a northerly direction on Dock Street/Leman Street between their junctions with East Smithfield and Chamber Street;
(9) on Alie Street between its junctions with Leman Street and St. Mark's Street;
(10) on Camperdown Street at its junction with Leman Street.
The Order will be effective at certain times between 8th March 2024 and 8th June 2024 Mon - Sat 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM (ceasing each Saturday morning at 6:00 AM) for articles 3(1) to 3(8) and between 8:00 AM on 8th March 2024 and 8:00 AM on 16th March 2024 for articles 3(9) and 3(10) or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibition will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.
Works will be phased such that some restrictions will apply only at certain times.
4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:
(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;
(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.
5. At such times as the prohibition is in force an alternative route will be indicated by traffic signs via Whitechapel High Street, A13 Commercial Road, Cannon Street Road then Cable Street to normal route of travel; Whitechapel High Street, Minories and A1211 Goodman's Yard to normal route of travel; Dock Street, The Highway, Cannon Street Road and Commercial Road to normal route of travel; East Smithfield, Tower Hill, Minories, Goodman's Yard and Mansell Street to normal route of travel.
