What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD
(LAMBTON STREET AND NELSON STREET GATESHEAD)
(MOVEMENT AND WAITING RESTRICTIONS)
(BUS LANE AMENDMENTS) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER

Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead (“hereinafter referred to as the Council”) proposes to make an Order in exercise of its powers under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (3), 4(2) and 19 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”), by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Northumbria Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act.The proposed Order will:

1. revoke Item 6 of Schedule 5 - No Waiting and Loading/Unloading at Any Time from the Borough Council of Gateshead (Gateshead Town Centre) Traffic Regulation Order 2014 in its entirety.

2. amend The Borough Council of Gateshead (Bus Lanes) Traffic Regulation Order 2014 as amended in the Borough Council of Gateshead (Bus Lanes Gateshead) (Amendment No.1) Traffic Regulation Order 2017 by revoking from Schedule 3A ‘Bus Lanes (Bus, Pedal Cycles, Hackney Carriage and Authorised Vehicles), Item 2 in its entirety and insert the following Item No. 2 - High Street, Gateshead - outside lane of the northbound carriageway from a point 237 metres north-west of its junction with Jackson Street in a Northwesterly direction for 138 metres.

3. introduce a ‘Prohibition of Waiting and Loading at Any Time’ along the lengths of road as set out in Schedule 1 below.

4. introduce a ‘Prohibition of Entry - Except Cyclists’ along the length of road as set out in Schedule 2 below.

5. Introduce a ‘No Right Turn’ and ‘No Left Turn’ along the lengths of road as set out in Schedule 3 and Schedule 4 below.

The draft Order together with plans and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order may be examined online at: www.gateshead.gov.uk/trafficschemes or at the information desk on the ground floor of Gateshead Council’s Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH Monday to Thursday between 8:45am and 5:00pm and Friday between 8:45am and 4:30pm or (Ref: IKEN/018392). If you wish to object to the proposed Order you should send the grounds for your objection in writing to be received by the undersigned at the above address on or before 02 April 2024.
