M6 Toll Motorway - Temporary Road Restrictions For Maintenance Works

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTIONS 14(1)(a) AND (7) AND PARAGRAPH 27(1) OF SCHEDULE 9
THE M6 TOLL MOTORWAY (M6 JUNCTION 3A TO M6 JUNCTION 11A) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State for Transport has revoked an existing Order and made a new Order on the M6 Toll Motorway, in the Counties of Warwickshire and Staffordshire, to allow resurfacing, bridge joint repair, stud and lining renewal, structure maintenance, signage renewal, safety fence repairs, drainage, electrical and maintenance works to be carried out. 

The effect of the Order will be to, at different times, -

(1) impose a 50 miles per hour speed limit on - 

(a) the northbound carriageway of the shared section of the M42/M6 Toll from a point 150 metres south of the centreline of Marsh Lane overbridge, to a point 80 metres north of the centreline of Marsh Lane overbridge; 

(b) the northbound carriageway of the M6 Toll from a point 80 metres north of the centreline of Marsh Lane overbridge, to a point 70 metres northwest of the centreline of Great Saredon Road overbridge, at Cannock; 

(c) the southbound carriageway of the M6 Toll from a point 130 metres northwest of the centreline of Great Saredon Road overbridge, at Cannock, to a point 165 metres south of the centreline of Watton Lane underbridge; and 

(d) the southbound carriageway of the M6 Toll from a point 245 metres north of the centreline of the B4114 Birmingham Road overbridge, to a point 1200 metres northwest of the centreline of Packington Lane overbridge, at Coleshill; 

(2) close -
(a) the northbound carriageway of the M6 Toll from its junction with the entry slip road leading from the A4097 at Junction T1, at Curdworth, to its junction with the northbound carriageway of the M6 at Junction 11a; 

(b) the southbound carriageway of the M6 Toll from its junction with the southbound carriageway of the M6 at Junction 11a, to its junction with the exit slip road leading to the roundabout junction with the A4091 and A446 (Junction T2), at Curdworth; and 

(c) any slip road leading to or from -

(i) the northbound carriageway of the M6 Toll from its junction with the northbound carriageway of the M42 (M42 Junction 9), at Curdworth, to its junction with the northbound carriageway of the M6 (M6 Junction 11a) at Great Saredon; and 

(ii) the southbound carriageway of the M6 Toll from its junction with the southbound carriageway of the M6 (M6 Junction 11a), at Great Saredon, to its junction with the southbound carriageway of the M42 (M42 Junction 9) at Curdworth; and 

(3) close lanes of the lengths of the M6 Toll described in (1) above and allow traffic to run on the hard shoulder. 

The work will be carried out, in phases, overnight between 21:00 hours and 06:00 hours and is expected to start on Monday 18 March 2024 and continue for nine months. The order will come into force on 11 March 2024 and end on 23 December 2024. 

Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions and closures. 

Vehicles being used for special forces purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions and vehicles being used by traffic officers, being used in connection with the works or being used for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures.

Diversion routes via the A4097, the A38, the A446, the A5, the A5148, the A5127, the A5195, the A460, the A4601 and alternative junctions of the M6 Toll will be signed.
