Barton Road And Adjoining Roads - 20Mph, 30Mph, 40Mph And 50Mph Speed Limits

CAMBRIDGESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

Barton Greenway – Pedal Cycle Priority Measures:
Barton Road And Adjoining Roads, Cambridge; Comberton Road, New Road, And Adjoining Roads, Barton; A603 Barton Road And Cambridge Road, Barton, Coton And Grantchester

(A603 Barton Road, A603 Cambridge Road, B1046 Comberton Road And B1046 New Road) (20mph, 30mph, 40mph And 50mph Speed Limits) Order 202-

Cambridgeshire County Council proposes to make the above-named Order under powers contained in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order would be to:
(a) introduce a 20mph Speed Limit in the following lengths of road: Comberton Road (B1046) – from a point 65m south-east of the south-eastern kerb-line of Hines Close to its junction with New Road (B1046); New Road (B1046) – from its junction with Comberton Road (B1046) to a point 76m east of the eastern kerb-line of King’s Grove; 
(b) introduce a 30mph Speed Limit in the following lengths of road: Barton Road (A603) – from a point 8m west of the common boundary of nos.114 and 116 Barton Road to a point 706 metres south-west of the common boundary of Nos 114 and 116 Barton Road; New Road (B1046) – From a point 76m east of the eastern kerb-line of King’s Grove to a point 46m west of the north-western kerb-line of Cambridge Road (A603), measured on the north side of New Road; 
(c) introduce a 40mph Speed Limit in the following lengths of road: New Road (B1046) – from a point 46m west of the north-western kerb-line of Cambridge Road (A603), measured on the north side of New Road, to its junction with Cambridge Road (A603); Barton Road (A603) – From a point 706 metres south-west of the common boundary of Nos 114 and 116 Barton Road to a point 142 metres north-east of the south-eastern kerb-line of its junction with Coton Road and Grantchester Road at the north-eastern roundabout of Haggis Farm Interchange measured of the south-east side of Barton Road;
(d) introduce a 50mph Speed Limit in the following lengths of road: Barton Road (A603) – from a point 142m north-east of the south-eastern kerb-line of its junction with Coton Road and Grantchester Road at the north-eastern roundabout of Haggis Farm Interchange measured on the south-east side to its junction with Cambridge Road (A603); Cambridge Road (A603) – from its junction with Barton Road (A603) to a point 277m north-east of the northern kerb-line of New Road (B1046). 

Notice Of Intention To Install Pedestrian And Cycle Crossing
Cambridgeshire County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to install a ‘zebra’ pedestrian crossing with a parallel pedal cycle crossing facility under powers contained in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, centred upon the following location:- New Road, Barton – at a point 20m east of the eastern kerb-line of Kings Grove, Barton. ‘Zig-zag’ markings (on which vehicles would be prohibited from stopping at all times), would be laid on both sides of the carriageway for a distance of 14m either side of this crossing.
Conversion Of Footway To Cycle Track And Changes To Existing Cycle Tracks On Footways Cambridgeshire County Council, in exercise of its powers under section 65 of the Highways Act 1980, hereby gives notice of its intention:
(a) To convert an area of footway to two-way shared-use cycle track for the use of 
both pedestrians and pedal cycles at the following location:- Barton Road, Cambridge, Coton and Grantchester, the full width of the northern and north-western footway as extends from the common boundary of Nos. 108 and 110 Barton Road to a point 142m north-east of the south-eastern kerb-line of its junction with Coton Road and Grantchester Road at the north-eastern roundabout of Haggis Farm Interchange measured on the south-east side; New Road, Barton – the full width of the northern footway as extends from its junction with Cambridge Road to a point 6m east of the eastern kerb-line of Kings Grove;
(b) To widen existing two-way segregated cycle tracks on footways for the use of pedal cycles only at the following locations:- Barton Road, Cambridge, all that part of the northern footway comprising a corridor 2.5m in width aligned with the southern edge of the footway as extends from a point 13m east of a point opposite the eastern kerb-line of Hardwick Street to a point 24m west of the western kerb-line of Clare Road; and Barton Road, Cambridge, all that part of the northern footway comprising a corridor 2.5m in width aligned with the southern of the footway as extends from a point 40m west of the western kerb-line of Barton Close to a point 6m east of the eastern kerb-line of Gough Way.
(c) To convert existing two-way segregated cycle tracks on footways for the use of pedal cycles only to two-way shared-use cycle tracks for the use of both pedestrians and pedal cycles at the following locations:- Barton Road, Cambridge, the full width of the northern footway as extends from a point 24m west of the western kerb-line of Clare Road to a point 40m west of the western kerb-line of Barton Close; and Barton Road, Cambridge, the full width of the northern footway as extends from a point 6m east of the eastern kerb-line of Gough Way to the common boundary of Nos. 108 and 110 Barton Road.

Notice Of Intention To Install Road Humps And Speed Tables Cambridgeshire County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to install road humps and speed tables under the powers contained in the Highways Act 1980.
(a) The road humps would be of sinusoidal cross-section construction, 3.7m in length, have a maximum height of 100mm and cover the greater width of the carriageway, centred upon the following locations:- Comberton Road, Barton – at a point 40m north-west of the south-western kerb-line of High Street; New Road, Barton: (i) at a point 30m north-east of the north-eastern kerb-line of School Lane; (ii) at a point 25m north-east of the north-eastern kerb-line of the vehicular access to Barton C of E Primary School; and (iii) at a point 6m east of the common boundary of Nos. 39 and 41 New Road. 
(b) The speed tables would be of flat-top construction, have a maximum height level with the surrounding kerb, and cover the entire width of the carriageway at the following locations:- Clare Road, Cambridge – extending northward from the northern kerb-line of Barton Road for a distance of 8m including both ramps; Gough Way, Cambridge – extending northward from the north-eastern kerb-line of Barton Road for a distance of 13m including both ramps; Grange Road, Cambridge – extending northward from the northern kerb-line of Barton Road for a distance of 9m including both ramps;
St. Marks Court, Cambridge – extending northward from the northern kerb-line of Barton Road for a distance of 8m including both ramps; Kings Grove, Barton – extending northward from its junction with New Road of the northern kerb-line on New Road for a distance of 8m including both ramps; and School Lane, Barton – extending south-eastward from the south-eastern kerb-line on New Road for a distance of 10m including both ramps, measured on the south-west side. These proposals are intended to provide a level surface for pedestrian/cycle crossing points and reduce the speed of motor vehicles in the vicinity of pedal cycle priority measures in Barton Road Cambridge and in Barton village.
