What is happening?

Highways

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.

CANTERBURY AREA

A2050 Dover Road, Bridge, CT1 3EL (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow electrical installation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of the A2050 Dover Road, Bridge, from 21.00 hours on 7th March 2024, with estimated completion by 06.00 hours on 8th March 2024, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed to south bound traffic only from the Gate Inn roundabout to the junction with the A2 Bridge interchange, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for light vehicles to access the A2 is via A2050 New Dover Road, A28 Upper Bridge Street, Rhodaus Town, Pin Hill, Wincheap A2 on slip, A2 Dover Road.

Local traffic for Bridge village and Patrixbourne will then exit at Coldharbour Lane off slip and use Coldharbour Lane, Bonny Bush Hill, Bridge Hill, High Street and Town Hill.

The alternative route for HGV’s over 14’ 9” (4.4m) to access the A2 is via A2050 New Dover Road, A28 Upper Bridge Street, Rhodaus Town, Pin Hill, Rheims Way, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, A2 Harbledown on slip, A2 Canterbury and Boughton Bypass, and Canterbury Road Dunkirk.

Hode Lane and Renville Farm Road will also be closed where they join Dover Road. There will be operatives on site to direct traffic.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Argyle Road, Whitstable, CT5 1AZ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow maintenance works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Argyle Road, Whitstable, on or after 6th March 2024, for up to 3 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 44, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Argyle Road, Oxford Street, Cromwell Road, Regent Street, Argyle Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Claremont Place, Canterbury, CT1 3QU (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow installation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Claremont Place, Canterbury, on or after 4th March 2024, with estimated completion by 8th March 2024, between the hours of 08.00 and 18.00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with York Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic:-

Diversion 1 is via Tudor Road to Wincheap to Victoria Road to St Mildreds Place to Martyrs Field to York Road to Grove Terrace.

Diversion 2 is via York Road to Grove Terrace to Tudor Road back to Claremont Road.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Denstroude Lane, Denstroude.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow drainage repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Denstroude Lane, Denstroude, on or after 4th March 2024, for up to 8 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of Holmcrest, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Denstroude Lane, Dargate Road, Plumpudding Lane, Dargate Road, Fox’s Cross Hill, Fox’s Cross Road, A290 Pean Hill, Honey Hill and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Fletcher Road, Chaucer Avenue & Marlowe Close, Whitstable (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow footway reconstruction works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on Fletcher Road, Chaucer Avenue & Marlowe Close, Whitstable, from 4th March 2024, with estimated completion by 29th April 2024, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 08.00 and 17.00, or until the works have been completed.

Fletcher Road, Whitstable

Fletcher Road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for vehicles is via Fletcher Road, Highgate Road and vice versa.

Chaucer Avenue, Whitstable

Chaucer Avenue will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.

Marlowe Close, Whitstable

Marlowe Close will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.

 

Kenfield Road, Petham.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow pole replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Kenfield Road, Petham, on or after 7th March 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 09.30 and 15.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with Garlinge Green Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Kenfield Road, Chartham Downs Road, Garlinge Green Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Marine Gap & Island Wall, Whitstable.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow the storage of plant and material, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Marine Gap & Island Wall, Whitstable, on or after 4th March 2024, with estimated completion by 31st March 2024, or until the works have been completed.

Marine Gap will be closed from the junction with Island Wall, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

Island Wall will be closed in the vicinity of number 89, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic for Marine Gap is via Marine Gap, Marine Terrace, Neptune Gap, Island Wall and vice versa.

The alternative route for any through traffic for Island Wall is via Nelson Road, Cornwallis Circle, Salt Marsh Lane, Waterloo Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Nunnery Fields, Canterbury, CT1 3LZ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Nunnery Fields, Canterbury, from 22.00 hours on 21st March 2024, with estimated completion by 06.00 hours on 22nd March 2024, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 34a, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Nunnery Fields, South Canterbury Road, Ethelbert Road, Old Dover Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Stodmarsh Road, Canterbury, CT2 0DR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow manhole works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Stodmarsh Road, Canterbury, on or after 6th March 2024, with estimated completion by 7th March 2024, between the hours of 08.00 and 18.00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of St. Elmo, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route:-

For any through traffic under 6’ 6” wide, the alternative route is via Stodmarsh Road, A257 Littlebourne Road, St Martin’s Hill, Longport, Lower Chantry Lane, St George’s Place, A28 Lower Bridge Street, Broad Street, Military Road, Tourtel Road, Sturry Road, Water Lane, Fordwich Road, King Street, High Street, Moat Lane and vice versa.

Due to the width restriction on Fordwich Road, the alternative route for any through traffic wider than 6’6” is via A257 Littlebourne Road, Canterbury Road, The Hill, Jubilee Road, Court Hill, Eldridge Hill, Stodmarsh Road and vice versa.

​Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

The Street, Kingston, CT4 6JA (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of The Street, Kingston, on or after 18th March 2024, for up to 3 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of Newbridge House, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via The Street, Westwood Road, Pheasant Hall Road, Crows Camp Road, Frog Lane, Bonny Bush Hill and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Town Road, Petham.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Town Road, Petham, on or after 19th March 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 09.30 and 15.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with Watery Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Town Road, Vicarage Hill, Garlinge Green Road, Kenfield Road, Chartham Downs Road, Street End, Stone Street and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

York Road, Canterbury, CT1 3QU (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow installation works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on York Road, Canterbury, on or after 18th March 2024, for up to 5 days, between the hours of 08.00 and 18.00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed for the entire length, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Martyrs’ Field Road, St Mildreds Place, Victoria Road, Wincheap and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Various Roads, Canterbury - Preservation.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING AND TEMPORARY 40 MPH  & 20 MPH SPEED RESTRICTIONS) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2024

To allow patching and preservation works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on various roads in Canterbury.

This Order takes effect on or after 18th March 2024, for a period of up to 18 months or until works have been completed. It may be necessary for some of the roads to be closed for multiple occasions for each phase of the works. Planned dates will be published in advance of the works on One.Network and indicated by signage displayed on site 14 days before they start.

After the Surface Treatment works, a temporary speed limit of 40 mph & 20 mph may need to be imposed on certain roads for a period of up to 7 days. Where the 40 mph & 20 mph Speed Limit does apply, this will be clearly indicated by relevant signs displayed on site. These works are subject to weather and other factors which may potentially cause changes at short notice; every effort will be made to keep as close as possible to the planned dates that are notified, and any changes will be publicised.

Road Closures

Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne & Littlebourne

The road will be closed from Bekesbourne Hill to the A257 High Street, Littlebourne, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via the A257 High Street, The Hill, Canterbury Road, A257 Littlebourne Road, Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne Hill and vice versa.

Denstroude Lane, Denstroude & Dunkirk

The road will be closed from the A290 Honey Hill to Dargate Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Dargate Road, Plumpudding Lane, Dargate Road, Fox’s Cross Hill, Fox’s Cross Road, A290 Pean Hill, A290 Honey Hill and vice versa.

Station Road, Bekesbourne

The road will be closed from School Lane to Bifrons Hill, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via School Lane, Chalkpit Hill, Adisham Road, Adisham Downs Road, Bramling Road, Poor Start Lane, Coldharbour Lane, Bonny Bush Hill, Bridge Hill, High Street, Town Hill, Bekesbourne Road, Bifrons Hill and vice versa.

Burnt House Hill, Wickhambreaux

The road will be closed from Stodmarsh Road to Holly Bush Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Stodmarsh Road, Holly Bush Lane and vice versa.                                        

Clapper Hill, Waltham & Stelling Minnis

The road will be closed from Duckpit Road to Dean Hill, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Duckpit Road, Lower Waltham Road, Dean Hill and vice versa.

Thornden Wood Road, Herne Bay & Chestfield

The road will be closed from Hackington Road to Owls Hatch Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Greenhill Road, A2990 Thanet Way, Chestfield Road, Radfall Hill, Radfall Road, Hackington Road and vice versa.

Molehill Road, Chestfield & Herne Bay

The road will be closed from Thornden Wood Road to Chestfield Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Thornden Wood Road, Greenhill Road, A2990 Thanet Way, Chestfield Road and vice versa.

Radfall Road & Radfall Hill, Chestfield

The road will be closed from South Street to Thornden Wood Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Chestfield Road, A2990 Thanet Way, Greenhill Road, Thornden Wood Road, Hackington Road, Radfall Road, Radfall Hill and vice versa.

Chestfield Road, Chestfield

The road will be closed from South Street to Maydowns Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Chestfield Road, A2990 Thanet Way, Greenhill Road, Thornden Wood Road, Hackington Road, Radfall Road, Radfall Hill, Chestfield Road and vice versa.

Fausset Hill, Lower Hardres

The road will be closed from Hardres Court Road to Bridge Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Nackington Road, Old Dover Road, A28 Rhodaus Town, Pin Hill, Wincheap, Thanington Road, Ashford Road, Shalmsford Street, Chartham Downs Road, Street End and vice versa.

Howfield Lane, Chartham

The road will be closed from New Town Street to A28 Ashford Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Town Road, Hatch Lane, A28 Ashford Road and vice versa.

Speed restrictions

It will be necessary to impose a 40 mph speed limit on the approach to, and then a 20mph speed limit through, working sites on various roads in Canterbury, as detailed below:-

Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne & Littlebourne - between the junctions of Bekesbourne Hill and the A257 High Street, Littlebourne.

Denstroude Lane, Denstroude & Dunkirk - between the junctions of the A290 Honey Hill and Dargate Road.

Station Road, Bekesbourne - between the junctions of School Lane and Bifrons Hill.

Burnt House Hill, Wickhambreaux - between the junctions of Stodmarsh Road and Holly Bush Lane. 

Clapper Hill, Waltham & Stelling Minnis - between the junctions of Duckpit Road and Dean Hill.

Thornden Wood Road, Herne Bay & Chestfield - between the junctions of Hackington Road and Owls Hatch Road.

Molehill Road, Chestfield & Herne Bay - between the junctions of Thornden Wood Road and Chestfield Road.

Radfall Road & Radfall Hill, Chestfield - between the junctions of South Street and Thornden Wood Road.
