What is happening?
The County Council of Durham
(Surface Dressing Programme 2024 - Various Roads in County Durham) (Temporary Road Closure and Speed Restrictions) Order 2024
The Council on 16/2/24 made the above Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, Section 14(1) to prohibit and restrict all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road to enable surface dressing and preparatory remedial works to be undertaken.

Location Without Diversion Unc 24.6 Hall Road, Stanhope, C74 Daddry Shield to Westgate, C21 Rookhope Village Bridge through to Brook Cottages, B6310 Burnopfield, Unc 26.2 Wolsingham Road Brancepeth, C13a Elemore Lane, High Pittington, Unc 33.2 Howlea Lane, Wolsingham
40 mph Speed Restrictions (where applicable) & 10 mph Speed Restrictions with convoy system and No Overtaking: Location A68 Tow Law to High Stoop, A68 Harperley Roundabout to Helme Park, Tow Law, C4 Pelton Lane, Newfield, A67 Darlington Boundary to Gainford, B6279 Moor Road Staindrop, B6277 County Boundary to Harwood,B6301 Tow Law to East Headleyhope, C11 Green Lane and Newacres Road Quaking Houses, B1280 Ivy Cottage to A19 interchange, B1287 Graham Way Seaham, A182 South Hetton to Loaning Burn, A167 Chilton Bypass, A694 Hamsterley to Lintzford.
20 mph Speed Restriction during bedding-in period (signed accordingly) All locations. Relevant speed restrictions, road closures and alternative routes will be clearly signed to vehicular traffic, where appropriate. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on 1/3/24 and during the anticipated programme of around 7 months. On occasions, alternative dates for closure may be necessary and these will be signed accordingly.
