Surrey - Road Closure for 20mph, 30mph and 40mph Speed Limits

What is happening?

THE SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL
(Various Roads in Guildford, Mole Valley and Waverley)
(Rural Area Speed Limits Area 2)
(20mph, 30mph and 40mph Speed Limits) (No. 1) Order 2024
On 22 February 2024 Surrey County Council made the above
named Order, under Section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act
1984 (as amended) and all other enabling powers, the effect of
which will be to:- (a) impose a 20mph speed limit in the length of
road specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice; and (b) impose a 30mph
speed limit in the length of road specified in Schedule 2 to this
Notice; (c) impose a 40mph speed limit in the length of road
specified in Schedule 3 to this Notice and (d) carry out legal drafting
amendments to “The Surrey County Council Various Roads in
Peaslake in the Parish of Shere (Restricted Roads) Order 2003” so
as to revoke the 30mph speed limit in Pond Lane (D228) Ewhurst
and Radnor Road (D276) Ewhurst; (e) carry out legal drafting
amendments to “The Surrey County Council (Various Roads in
Abinger Forest Green Leatherhead and Wotton in the District of
Mole Valley) (Imposition of 40 mph Speed Limit and 50 mph Speed
Limit and Amendment) Order 2011” so as to revoke the 40mph
speed limit in that length of Ockley Road (B2127) Forest Green
which extends from the boundary between the Borough of Waverley
and the District of Mole Valley and a point 117m north-east of its
junction with Lyefield Lane.
The speed limits imposed by this Order shall not apply to vehicles
used by special forces in accordance with the Road Traffic Exemptions
(Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011.
A copy of the made Order, which will come into operation on 24
February 2024, a plan showing the lengths of roads to which the
Order relates, and a Statement of the Council’s reasons for making
the Order may be viewed:

Schedule 1 (20mph speed limit)
1. Holmbury Road (D276) Ewhurst – between its junction with
Radnor Road to a point 83m south of the northern kerb-line of the
un-named access road leading to the property known as Holmbury
House; 2. Lower Breache Road (D278) Ewhurst/Forest Green – its
entire length; 3. Moon Hall Road (D222) Ewhurst – its entire length;
4. Lowerhouse Lane (D279) Forest Green also known as Byway open
to all traffic No. 541 (Abinger) – its entire length; 5. Pond Lane (D226)
Ewhurst – its entire length; 6. Jesses Lane (D228) Peaslake – its
entire length; 7. Lawbrook Lane (D227) Gomshall/Peaslake – its
entire length; 8. Radnor Road (D276) Peaslake – its entire length;
9. Ewhurst Road (D222) Peaslake – between its junction with
Radnor Road and The Walking Bottom and a point 13m south of the
southern property boundary of “Fir Tree Cottage”; 10. Gomshall
Lane (C43) Shere – between its junction with A25 Shere Road and
a point 1m west of a point on a line forming a northerly extension
onto Gomshall lane (C46) of the property boundary line between
“The Studio” and “the Medical Centre”; 11. Upper Street (C46)
Shere – between its junction with A25 Shere Road and a point 26m
north-west of a line forming a south-westerly extension onto Upper
Street (C46) of the north-western property boundary line of the
“Upper Lodge”; 12. Burchets Hollow (D229) Peaslake – its entire
length; 13. Lyefield Lane (D279) Forest Green – its entire length.
Schedule 2 (30mph speed limit)
1. Burrows Lane (D227) Gomshall – between its junction with Hook
Lane and Burrows Cross, north-wards to a point 15m south of the
level crossing; 2. Hound House Road (C46) Shere – its entire length;
3. Sandy Lane (C46) Shere – from its junction with Hook Lane to a
point 20m south of the south-eastern kerb-line of The Spinning Walk;
4. Shere Road (C46) Ewhurst – between its junction with Peaslake
Road and a point 300m north-west of the northern highway
boundary of Ockley Road; 5. Hook Lane (D222) Shere – its entire
length; 6. Burrows Cross (D222) Shere – its entire length; 7. Pursers
Lane (D222) Peaslake – between its junction with Jesses Lane and
a point 100m north-west and then west of the northern highway
boundary of Lenten Close; 8. Holmbury Road (D276) Ewhurst –
between its junction with Ockley Road and a point 83m south of the
northern kerb-line of the un-named access road leading to the
property known as Holmbury House;9. North Breache Lane (D276)
Ewhurst – its entire length; 10. Peaslake Road (D222) Ewhurst –
its entire length; 11. Pitch Hill (C46) Ewhurst – its entire length;
12. Plough Lane (D276) Ewhurst – its entire length; 13. Franksfield
(D230) Peaslake – between its junction with Hoe Lane and its
junction with Public Footpath No. 171 (Shere); 14. Ewhurst Road
(D222) Peaslake – between a point 13m south of the southern
property boundary of “Fir Tree Cottage” and its junction with
Peaslake Road; 15. Ockley Road (B2127) Cranleigh/Ewhurst/Forest
Green – between a point 20 yards east of Cobblers Brook Bridge
(the terminal point of the existing 30mph speed limit as imposed by
The Surrey County Council (Built-up Areas) (No. 1) Order, 1936) and
a point 117m north-east of its junction with Lyefield Lane.
Schedule 3 (40mph speed limit)
1. Furzen Lane (C51) Walliswood – between its junction with C48
Horsham Road south-westwards to the boundary of the District of
Mole Valley and Borough of Waverley; 2. Somersbury Lane (C47)
Ewhurst – between its junction with C48 Horsham Lane and a point
80.5m north-east of the north-eastern kerb-line of B2128 Horsham
Road; 3 Horsham Lane (C48) Ewhurst – between its junction with
Somersbury Lane south-eastwards to the boundary of the District of
Mole Valley and Borough of Waverley.
