Biggleswade Area - Various Traffic Orders
What is happening?
CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE COUNCIL – NOTICE OF MAKING SUN STREET, HILL LANE, FAIRFIELD ROAD, WILSHERES ROAD AND SHORTMEAD STREET, BIGGLESWADE NO WAITING AT ANY TIME
On 16th February 2024 Central Bedfordshire Council made the below named Traffic Regulation Order which has the effect as follows:-
To introduce No Waiting at any Time on the following lengths of road in Biggleswade:-
1. Sun Street, south-west side, from the shared property boundary between Nos 5-12 Rising Sun Court and No. 36 Sun Street (where the western side of the Zebra Crossing begins) and extending in a north-westerly direction for approximately 10m.
2. Hill Lane, south side, from a point in line with a point approximately 7 metres north-east of the centre of the junction with Bells Brook House and extending in a generally north-easterly direction following the curvature of the road as it bends east and then south-east for approximately 123 metres, ending where the access to North Gate Court begins.
3. Hill Lane, west side, from a point where the access to North Gate Court ends and extending in a south-easterly direction for approximately 50 metres, continuing into Shortmead Street, ending where the junction to access Bennetts Car Parts and Biggleswade MOT Centre is.
4. Fairfield Road, east side, from the junction with Wilsheres Road and extending in a southerly direction for approximately 17 metres, ending in line with the point where No. 66 Fairfield Roads driveway begins.
5. Wilsheres Road, south side, from the junction with Fairfield Road and extending in an easterly direction for approximately 21 metres, ending at a point in line with the shared property boundary between No. 66 Fairfield Road and No. 1 Wilsheres Road.
6. Shortmead Street, west side, from a point where the junction to access Bennetts Car Parts and Biggleswade MOT Centre is and extending in a south-easterly direction for approximately 71 metres ending at a point where the existing Bus Stop begins.
Order Title:- Central Bedfordshire Council (Bedfordshire County Council (District of Mid Bedfordshire) (Civil Enforcement Area and Special Enforcement Area) (Waiting Restrictions and Street Parking Places) (Consolidation) Order 2008) (Variation No.8) Order 2024 Date of Operation:- The Order will come into operation on the 1st March 2024. High Court Challenge:- Any person who desires to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained therein on the ground that it is not within the powers of the relevant Section of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the ground that any requirement of that Section had not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within six weeks of 16th February 2024, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE COUNCIL (ASTWICK ROAD, STOTFOLD) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Central Bedfordshire Council intends not less than seven days from the date of this Notice to make an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle, except a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along the length of Astwick Road, Stotfold at junction with Sycamore Avenue.
This temporary closure is required to enable Section 278 works to take place and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs. Where possible access will be maintained to property and premises but may be restricted from time to time according to local signing.
It is expected that the works will take place from 11 to 23 March 2024. The road will be closed at all times during this period.
The alternative route for this closure is via Astwick Road, A1 London Road, Norton Road, Baldock Road, High Street, Regent Street, The Green and vice versa.
The Order will come into operation on 11 March 2024 for a period of eighteen months or until the proposed works have been completed, as detailed above, whichever is the earlier.

CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE COUNCIL (SHEFFORD ROAD, SOUTHILL) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Central Bedfordshire Council has made an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle, except a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along the length of Shefford Road, Southill approximately 50 metres north of number 1, Station Cottage.
This temporary closure is required to enable communication pipe repair works to take place and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs. Where possible access will be maintained to property and premises but may be restricted from time to time according to local signing.
It is expected that the works will take place from 26 to 28 February 2024. The road will be closed at all times during this period.
The alternative route for this closure is via Bedford Road, ZUC150, ZUC151, Ireland, ZUC147 and vice versa.
The Order will come into operation on 26 February 2024 for a period of eighteen months or until the proposed works have been completed, as detailed above, whichever is the earlier.
