A66 Trunk Road, Multiple Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders
What is happening?
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14
THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (EASTBOUND & WESTBOUND CARRIAGEWAYS) (TEMPOARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the Unitary Authority of Westmorland and Furness, in the County of Cumbria, to enable carriageway repairs, resurfacing works, and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.
The Order will:
a) impose speed limits on the following sections of the A66 Trunk Road:
i. 40 mph on the eastbound carriageway, from a point 307 metres east of the Fairybead Lane Junction, to a point 227 metres east of the Farmers Auction Market Junction;
ii. 40 mph on the westbound carriageway, from a point 190 metres east of the Skirsgill Business Park Junction, to a point 307 metres east of the Fairybead Lane Junction.
b) ban all traffic from the following section of the A66 Trunk Road:
i. the eastbound carriageway, from the Fairybead Lane Junction, to a point 227 metres east of the Farmers Auction Market Junction;
ii. the westbound carriageway, from the M6 J40 northbound exit slip road, to a point 70 metres east of the Fairybead Lane Junction.
c) ban all traffic from the following laybys adjacent to the A66 Trunk Road located at points:
i. 314 metres east of the western Newbiggin Junction, on the eastbound carriageway;
ii. 404 metres east of the Slapestones Roundabout, on the westbound carriageway;
iii. 170 metres east of the Slapestones Roundabout, on the eastbound carriageway.
d) ban all traffic from exiting or entering the following side roads adjacent to the A66 Trunk Road:
i. the unnamed side road leading to the Skirsgill Business Park;
ii. the unnamed side road leading to the Burger King and Travelodge Penrith;
iii. the unnamed side road leading to the Rheged Discovery Centre (Visitor Centre);
iv. the A592 Junction;
v. the Mile Lane Junction.
The restrictions and prohibitions are expected to take place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Monday 26 February 2024 and ending on Sunday 31 March 2024. However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights or continue until completed. Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the A66 Trunk Road and local roads will be well signed for all traffic.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, traffic officer or winter maintenance vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs.
