Public Footpath from Castle Road to Willows Path, Epsom T6093 (Rights of Way route 67) Temporary Closure Order 2024
Further to the issue of a Notice on 30 January 2024 under Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 ("the Act") on 14 February 2024 Surrey County Council made the above-mentioned Temporary Order under Section 14(1) of "the Act", the effect of which will be to prohibit all any person from entering or proceeding in that length of the public footpath from Castle Road to Willows Path, Epsom T6093 (Rights of Way route 67) that is carried by the "Castle Road Footbridge". This Traffic Order is required on grounds of safety to enable Network Rail/Centurion to carry out remedial works to the "Castle Road Footbridge" and/or maintenance works. These works are anticipated to be carried out between the hours of 8am and 5pm as soon as possible within the 5 month period of operation of this Temporary Order that commences on 19 February 2024. Advanced warning signs will be displayed and the temporary prohibition which is anticipated to be required for 24 hours each day, will only operate when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. Access for emergency services, pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists and equestrians will be maintained via the footway to Castle Road, Dorking Road, Wells Road and, the public footpath from Wells Road to Wheelers Lane T6035 (Rights of Way route 71). Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Section 14(1) Public Footpath 32 (Epsom & Ewell) and Public Bridleway 33 (Epsom & Ewell) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2024
On 22 February 2024 Surrey County Council will make a temporary order to prohibit all traffic on foot or any other means from entering or proceeding along that length of: Public Footpath 32 (Epsom & Ewell) which extends for about 282 metres in a south-easterly direction from its junction with Public Bridleway 146 (Epsom & Ewell) (Grid ref: 520396 157566) to its junction with Public Bridleway 33 (Epsom & Ewell) (Grid ref: 520669 157489), and Public Bridleway 33 (Epsom & Ewell) which extends from its junction with Public Bridleway 146 (Epsom & Ewell) (Grid ref: 520567 157760) for approximately 725 metres in a south-easterly direction to its junction with Public Bridleway 47 (Epsom & Ewell) (Grid ref:520931 157170). The Order is necessary by reason of danger to the public due to construction works being undertaken on or near Public Footpath 32 (Epsom & Ewell) and the section of Public Bridleway 33 which extends from its junction with Public Bridleway 146 (Epsom & Ewell) and its junction with Public Bridleway 47 (Epsom & Ewell). The order will be in operation from 22 February 2024 for a period of 6 months or until completion of the works, if earlier, and while the relevant notices are displayed. The Secretary of State for Transport can extend that period if required.
The temporary closure will only be in operation when appropriate road traffic signs are displayed on site by the County Council or an authorised person acting on its behalf. Access to properties will not be affected. Suggested alternative route: from the start of Public Footpath 32, along Langley Vale Road and Public Bridleway 146, proceed for 250 metres north-east on Public Bridleway 146, then turn south-east onto a track running parallel to Public Bridleway 33 and proceed for 720 metres to its junction with Public Bridleway 127. The "Surrey County Council Public Footpath 32 (Epsom & Ewell) and Public Bridleway 33 (Epsom & Ewell) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2024" will be made by the County Council under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
