NATIONAL HIGHWAYS

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14
THE M1 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 28 TO JUNCTION 31)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway, in the Counties of South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, to enable Emergency Refuge Area construction,
associated technology and advancing signing infrastructure works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 8pm on Sunday 10 March for 15 months, or until completed. The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a
day, at times during the works, to impose a temporary 60mph, 50mph and 40mph speed restriction on the M1:
(i) northbound carriageway from 2500 metres south of the exit slip road at Junction 28 to 500 metres north of the exit slip road at Junction 31, a distance of 32990 metres;
(ii) southbound carriageway from 2000 metres north of the exit slip road at Junction 31 to 500 metres south of the entry slip road at Junction 28, a distance of 32990 metres;
(iii) northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 28 (Pinxton Interchange), Junction 29 (Heath Interchange), Junction 29a (Markham Road and Lane), Junction 30 (Balborough), Junction 31 (Aston), Woodall Services and Tibshelf Services; and
(iv) link road connecting the M18 southbound carriageway with the M1 southbound carriageway at Thurcroft (M1 Junction 32).
It will be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to close the emergency refuge areas adjacent to the length of carriageways as
described above in (i) and (ii). Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a
day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and
prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 9 March 2024 and has
a maximum duration of eighteen months.
The project manager for this scheme is Usamah Khalid. For enquiries please contact the National Highways Customer Contact Centre on 03001235000 or info@nationalhighways.co.uk
