M25 MOTORWAY – JUNCTIONS 5 TO 7 and M26 MOTORWAY (WESTBOUND)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M25 Motorway in the Counties of Kent and Surrey under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order would be to: -

1. authorise the overnight closure of –

(a) the westbound carriageway of the M26 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip at Junction 2a (A20) and its merge with the M25 at Junction 5 (M26/A21); and

(b) the link road connecting from the northbound carriageway of the A21 to the clockwise carriageway of the M25 at Junction 5 (M26/A21).

2. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed restriction on –

(a) the continuous westbound carriageway of the M26 and the clockwise carriageway of the M25 between the centreline of the A224 (London Road) overbridge and the centreline of the M23 main carriageway overbridge;

(b) the clockwise link carriageway of the M25 (between its divergence from the A21 southbound carriageway and its merge with the westbound carriageway of the M26) between a point approximately 122 Metres south-west of the centreline of the M26 eastbound carriageway overbridge and its merge with the westbound carriageway of the M26;

(c) the continuous anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 and the eastbound carriageway of the M26 between the centreline of the M23 main carriageway overbridge and the centreline of the M25 clockwise link carriageway overbridge;

(d) the anti-clockwise link carriageway of the M25 (between its divergence from the M26 eastbound carriageway and its merge with the northbound carriageway of the A21) between its divergence from the M26 and the centreline of Chevening Road (unclassified) overbridge;

(e) the link road connecting from the northbound carriageway of the A21 to the clockwise carriageway of the M25 at Junction 5 (M26/A21);

(f) all of the roads leading to and from both carriageways of the M25 at Clacket Lane Services;

(g) all of the roads leading to and from both carriageways of the M25 at Junction 6 (A22);

(h) the link road connecting from the southbound carriageway of the M23 to the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 at M23 Junction 8 (M25 Junction 7);

(i) the link road connecting from the northbound carriageway of the M23 to the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 (from its point of divergence from the link leading to the clockwise carriageway of the M25) at M23 Junction 8 (M25 Junction 7); and

(j) the link roads connecting from the clockwise carriageway of the M25 to both carriageways of the M23 at M25 Junction 7 (M23 Junction 8).

3. Impose, alternatively, a 24-hour 60mph speed restriction on the lengths of carriageway and slip/link roads described in 2. above.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake installation of new emergency refuge areas, stopped vehicle detection (SVD) upgrade, and all associated works.

It is expected that the work would last for approximately 18 months starting on or after Monday 4th March 2024. The overnight closures of the links described above would take place between the following hours (maximum periods) -

Mondays – Thursdays 22:00 – 05:30
Fridays 23:00 – 06:00
Saturdays 22:00 – 06:00
Sundays 22:30 – 05:30

The Order would come into force on 2nd March 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete. Please visit National Highways website for closure details.

Traffic affected by the closure of the westbound M26 as in 1(a) above would be strategically diverted London-bound on the M20 from Junction 3 to Junction 1 (M25 Junction 3). Traffic affected by the closure of the link road as in 1(b) above would be diverted northbound/anti-clockwise on the A21 and M25 to Junction 4 (A21 Spur/A224) and return.

The temporary speed limits, closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
