ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14

THE A590 TRUNK ROAD (CARRIAGEWAYS AND SLIP ROADS & M6 JUNCTION 36 ROUNDABOUT AND SLIP ROADS) (TEMPOARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the A590 Trunk Road and M6 Motorway, in the Unitary Authority of Westmorland and Furness, in the County of Cumbria, to enable renewal of road markings, upgraded signing and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety. The Order will:

a) impose speed limits on the following sections of the A590 Trunk Road and M6 Motorway:

i. 40 mph on the A590 eastbound carriageway, from the point at which the A591 carriageway joins the A590 carriageway, to the point at which A590 carriageway joins the M6 J36 Roundabout;

ii. 40 mph on the A590 eastbound entry slip road at Brettargh Holt;

iii. 40 mph on the M6 J36 Roundabout;

iv. 40 mph on the M6 J36 southbound exit slip road;

v. 40 mph on the M6 J36 northbound exit slip road;

vi. 10 mph on the M6 Junction 36 Roundabout;

vii. 10 mph on the A590 eastbound carriageway, from a point 550 metres west of the B6385 Bridge, to the point at which the A590 carriageway joins the M6 J36 Roundabout. The 10 mph speed limit will apply for safety reasons through the works area where traffic will be escorted by a highway maintenance vehicle.

b) ban all traffic from the following sections of the A590 Trunk Road and M6 Motorway:

i. the A590 eastbound carriageway, from the point at which the A591 carriageway joins the A590 carriageway at Brettargh Holt, to the point at which A590 carriageway joins the M6 J36 Roundabout;

ii. the A590 westbound carriageway, from the point at which the A590 carriageway leaves the M6 J36 Roundabout, to the point at which A590 carriageway joins the A591 carriageway;

iii. the M6 J36 southbound exit slip road;

iv. the M6 J36 northbound entry slip road;

v. the M6 J36 straight ahead lane on the northbound exit slip road;

vi. the M6 J36 northbound exit slip road;

vii. the A590 westbound exit slip road;

viii. the A590 eastbound entry slip road at Brettargh Holt.

c) ban all traffic from the following laybys adjacent to the A590 Trunk Road located at points:

i. 2,330 metres west of the B6385 Bridge, on the eastbound carriageway;

ii. 709 metres west of the B6385 Bridge, on the eastbound carriageway;

iii. 247 metres east of the B6385 Bridge, on the eastbound carriageway.

Restrictions a) i.-ii and prohibitions c) i.-iii. are expected to be in place during a continuous period starting at 08:00 on Sunday 25 February 2024 and ending at 17:00 on Sunday 31 March 2024. Restrictions a) iii.-vii. and prohibitions and b) i., iii., iv.-v., vi. and viii. are expected to take place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Monday 26 February 2024 and ending on Sunday 31 March 2024. Prohibitions b) ii. and vii. are expected to take place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Saturday 16 March 2024 and ending on Monday 25 March 2024. However, works may start and continue during subsequent continuous periods or between the same times on subsequent nights until completed. Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the A590 Trunk Road, M6 Motorway and local roads will be well signed for all traffic. The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, traffic officer or winter maintenance vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs.
