M3 Motorway – Junctions 2 To 4A - Temporary Traffic Restrictions
What is happening?
M3 MOTORWAY – JUNCTIONS 2 TO 4a TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the M3 Motorway in the Counties of Surrey and Hampshire under Section 14(1) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order is to: -
1. authorise the overnight closure of –
(a) the road leading to the London-bound carriageway of the M3 at Junction 3 (A322);
(b) the road leading to the London-bound carriageway of the M3 at Junction 4 (A331);
(c) the road leading to the coast-bound carriageway of the M3 at Junction 4 (A331);
(d) the roads connecting from both carriageways of the M25 to the coast-bound carriageway of the M3 at Junction 2 (M25 Junction 12).
2. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed restriction on –
(a) the coast-bound carriageway of the M3 between a point 490 metres south-west of the centreline of Bridge Lane overbridge and the centreline of the A327 overbridge;
(b) the London-bound carriageway of the M3 between the centreline of the A327 overbridge and the centreline of the M25 underbridge;
(c) all the roads leading to and from both carriageways of the M3 at Junction 3 (A322);
(d) all of the roads leading to and from both carriageways of the M3 at Junction 4 (A331);
(e) the road leading to the London-bound carriageway of the M3 at Junction 4a (A327); and
(f) all of the road leading from the coast-bound carriageway of the M3 at Junction 4a (A327).
3. Impose, alternatively, a 24-hour 60mph speed restriction on the lengths of carriageway and slip/ link roads described in 2. above.
These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake installation of new emergency refuge areas and all associated works.
It is expected that the work will last for approximately 18 months starting on or after Friday 16th February 2024. The overnight closures of the links described in 1(d) above will take place between the following hours (maximum periods) -
Mondays – Thursdays 22:00 – 05:30
Fridays 23:00 – 06:00
Saturdays 22:00 – 06:00
Sundays 22:30 – 05:30
The overnight closures of the links described in 1(a) –
(c) above will take place between 21:00 and 06:00 hours (maximum periods).
The Order will come into force on 14th February 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete. Please visit National Highways website for closure details. Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted to the next appropriate junctions of the M3 and return.
The temporary speed limits, closures and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
