The M1 Motorway (Junctions 45 - 48) - Temporary Restriction & Prohibition of Traffic
What is happening?

THE M1 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 45 TO JUNCTION 48)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway, the A1(M) Motorway, the A64 Trunk Road, the A63 Trunk Road, in the Districts of Leeds and Wakefield, to enable structural assessments, surveys and works, barrier removal and installation, lighting removal and installation, cable and ducts removal and installation, earthworks, drainage, and outlet works, resurfacing and white lining works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 00:01 on Friday 1 March 2024 for 11 months, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the:
(i) A1(M) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 44 (Bramham) to 500 metres south of the exit slip road at Junction 43 (Hook Moor), a distance of 5825 metres;
(ii) M1 southbound carriageway from its diverge with the A1(M) southbound carriageway at Hook Moor (A1(M) Junction 43) to the entry slip road at Junction 45 (East Leeds Link), a distance of 11810 metres;
(iii) A1(M) southbound entry slip road at Junction 44;
(iv) link road connecting the A64 westbound carriageway with the A1(M) southbound carriageway at Bramham;
(v) M1 southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 47 (Parlington);
(vi) M1 southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 46 (Austhorpe);
(vii) M1 southbound exit slip road at Junction 45; and
(viii) link road connecting the A63 westbound carriageway with the M1 southbound carriageway at Austhorpe.
It will be necessary to close between 8pm and 6 am, at times during the works, the :
(ix) length of M1 southbound carriageway as described above in (ii);
(x) A1(M) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 44 to the entry slip road at Junction 42 (Selby Fork), a distance of 13100 metres;
(xi) slip roads and link roads described above in (iii, iv, v, vi, vii and viii); and
(xii) A1(M) southbound exit slip road at Junction 42. During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.
It will also be necessary to, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to;
(i) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6’6” in specified lanes of the M1 carriageway as described above in (ii); and
(ii) use the hard shoulder for traffic adjacent to the M1 carriageway as described in (ii).
Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 29 February 2024 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
